inaccuracies and distortions, February 8, 2011

Chapters 3 and 4 are loaded with inaccuracies, distortions and relevant omissions. For whatever reason, this text has presented a romanticized picture of Islamic culture and religious practices. An uninformed young person who reads these chapters will walk away with a caricatured knowledge of Islam. The violent, intolerant, and core undemocratic history of Islam has been smoothed over. It is imperative that parents, educators and concerned students speak up and demand accuracy. If history is taught with the intent of understanding past events so as to better understand and evaluate what is happening today, then the 2 chapters in question fail miserably. History is about what occurred not what some may wish had occurred or what might make some feel good. The good, the bad and yes the ugly deserve equal treatment. Otherwise, stop teaching history.
Please do your own research and then let authorities know how you feel. The publisher, the editor, the school board, the teachers, the PTA and local news need to hear from you. Radical Islam and "stealth" jihad can only be understood if one has a basic and accurate knowledge of its origins. This has noting to do with the millions of non-violent and democratic minded Moslems, but one can't ignore those who embrace a different ideology and where it comes from.

I am so happy to be able to purchase this book for my son. He is currently using this book in his class and it is heavy. I am able to have him read the chapters when he has forgotten to bring home the book.

Excellent review of Midieval history, October 1, 2011

I bought this to use for home schooling my 8th grader and I found it to be excellent. Each chapter is thorough, accurate and easy to follow. End of the chapter questions are well written. It was fun to go through the very informative book.
