Countryfest 2001, was held past weekend in Cadott, Wisconsin with acts like Brooks@Dunn, Sawyer Brown, Toby Keith, to name just a few of the national recording artist performing at this 4 day event. I attended as usual and used my van for camping. I mounted a few huge speakers on the roof and played Ilse's CD. The response of passersby and fellow campers was unbelieveable. People loved the music and wanted to know the artist. After informing them, they where surprised that this was the work of a Dutch girl and where slightly disappointed that the CD was not released in the US. I and many others believe that she could give established US country artists a run for their money and I recommend this CD to anybody that loves country music. This CD deserves to be released in the US and I think the record company would not regret it. This girl is going places and it is time that the US country music fans get the chance to embrace her music. Buy this CD and I promise you that you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, February 24, 2000

My boyfriend is Dutch and has this CD, and when I went to visit him in December 1998, I fell in love with it. When my friend's brother went to the Netherlands, I made him bring a copy back for me. She's got another album out there, it's a live recording titled "Dear John." I'm planning a trip back to Holland in May, so I'll pick it up then. I'd recommend this album to anyone who enjoys the likes of Shania Twain or Faith Hill, even if they aren't necessarily a fan of country music in general (like me!).

5.0 out of 5 stars She's a great artist, December 11, 1999

Most Americans must be amazed -- where did this Dutch girl learn to sing like that? Who cares ... she can. She's got a great set of pipes and puts some pretty hefty emotion behind them. Was in Amsterdam when I found out about her. Bought the CD there and have been waiting for more ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Country; Excellent Music..., June 19, 1999

I'm not the Country music type, but when I was in the Netherlands during an extended business visit, I overheard "World of Hurt" being played on a Dutch local radio station that was fed to the factory's P.A system.

I asked one of the technicians in the factory who the artist was and he proudly told me about Ilse DeLange. I was then lucky enough to see her play on the Dutch music television TV station TMF: the Music Factory.

That led to me buying what I feel is my most satisifying album of 1999 so far. She's an excellent vocalist, with a competent backing band.

I hope that her debut album isn't her last. If it is then I will be in a "World of Hurt".

Truely brillant music.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, October 2, 2010
This review is from: World of Hurt (Audio CD)
It's too bad the USA doesn't give this lovely voice a chance on its airwaves. This is the purest country music voice I have heard in a long time. I found out about her through a visitor to Lake Placid, NY, where I work, who brought over this and a lot of Ilse's other music on her MP3 player. She heard me playing a different artist, so we started a conversation, and...well, you know how THAT story goes!
Anyhow, she introduced me to Ilse DeLange's music, and I have spent the better part of the time since listening, and learning. Specifically for this CD, I was blown away. From the opening song "Flying Blind" you know you are listening to someone who understands country life and sings about its ups and downs, and its loves and losses, convincingly and passionately. You'll find a fantastic, heartfelt version of "Lonely Too" recorded before Lee Ann Womack did it. "You Are the Dream" is a wonderful love song of patient hope; "All The Woman You'll Ever Need" shows a bit of sassy funk and attitude: "When We Don't Talk" is a sad view of watching a relationship fade. All in all, there is not a bad cut on this album.
Further advice; with it being 2010 now, she has had several other releases you'll want to check out. She's woth it, and I wonder what it would take to get US Radio to play her music.

I love country music, and I own most CD's of the american country singers, but once I've heard Ilse, I was sold. There is so much emotion in her voice, she's just unbelievable good. I recommend this album to everyone who loves music with a heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ilse's voice is radiant, every song turns to pure joy., July 2, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: World of Hurt (Audio CD)
It is easy to see why the Dutch have gone completely mad over Ilse Dulange. Her music radiates her sex and whether slightly country, pop or folk the listener transcends the genre and is wrapped tight into the world she has constructed with her voice. Each of Ilse's songs resembles a empassioned soliloquy engendering whatever emotion being rendered. It is intimate, raw and compelling, all at the same time. My immediate comparison, though these are usually confining and insulting to the newer artist, if Ilse were to play more rock, she would be a newer and even better Bonnie Raitt. If you like a powerful, multi-dimensional diva, this woman is what you are looking for!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing country-crossover from a very talented singer, January 30, 2001

I have only just discovered Ilse Delange, on a visit to Holland when a Dutch friend bought 'World of Hurt' for me. It hasn't left my stereo since. OK, I can tell you are thinking - Dutch singer, uh-oh, does Dutch sound all that good when it is sung; well don't worry, she sings everything in English with absolutely no accent, the Dutch are excellent linguists. Anyway, after that little diversion, back to the music: this album is probably best classified as country-pop, not quite country as there is a notable (albeit pleasing) absence of 'Yee-haws', think Faith Hill and you're there. It also has none of the 'I love you baby' type lyrics of typical contempory pop, Ilse's are a bit more interesting (in a good way, I hasten to add) for example: 'If I were a ghost I'd haunt your house and hang out in the rafters, you could be my Mr Adams I could be your Casper.' Most of the lyrics are a little more serious but very well written nevertheless. This leads me on to another of the album's many virtues; the sleeve notes which contain the lyrics. Doncha just hate it when they aren't included. This is an album you have to have, but don't just believe me, see for yourself and buy it cos I guarantee you'll love it.

PS Best tracks are 'Flying Blind', 'I'd be yours', 'Tap-dancing on the highwire' and 'You are the dream'. Enjoy!
