I have been following Ace's career for some time now, since Early November's 'For All Of This'. This is a musician, in my eyes, who could do no wrong. Not only is his music enjoyable, but I haven't heard a song I didn't like. This album is no exception. I thought the side project I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business was done, but this album surely shows that it is still alive. Even though it is suppose to be one long song, each song is just as good on it's own. If you liked I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody's Business's first album, you will like this one. If you like anything Ace Enders puts out, you know this will just be another great album by him.

Well if you hear reviews that Ace does not sound like the Early November, and so forth... well that is because he is not representing the Early November. I liked that band too, but they had to break up and so Ace had to do a project and here it is. I was actually not a big fan of Ace's side project, until I saw him play live in Warped tour 2010. I have to say it was an emo enviroment, but the music was so great that it had a folkish sound and to what I saw a lot of us there where "Early November" fans. The music had a soft rock sound, but it sounded very pleasing to the ears and emotional. I liked this show a lot that I decided to download this album through amazon, and I have to say it is a great album. If you are expecting screaming vocals, and brutal break downs, then this music is not for you, but if you are expecting a calm, folk and emo sound than you should listen to I can make a mess...

After listening to this album continuously over the past few days, I have to say I'm very pleasantly surprised by it. The last 'I Can Make A Mess' album was very good, and I have many great memories tied to that album, but it doesn't hold up as well over time. His last album was fun, quirky, and felt pretty experimental. A bit of folk here, a song that would be at home on a "The Early November" album here, an acoustic ballad there, etc.

This album's sound is grounded. As a listener I can tell that there is direction here. There is passion. This album is melodic, ambient yet very structured, and just a pleasure to listen to. As someone who hasn't listened to this 'band' in about 3 or 4 years, I said out loud many times during my listen, "Wow...this is actually really good." There is a lot of maturation here, and like I said there seems to be a lot more direction. No longer does it feel like "This is what I do when I'm not playing with TEN." It feels genuine and different.

The album starts out with "Sleep Means Sleeping" a very soft-spoken song up until right towards the end. Full of melodies, hooks, and unrelenting in it's melody. A very pretty song. I'd compare the next song to an acoustic Bright Eyes or Right Away, Great Captain(Andy from Manchester Orchestra) song. The next few songs are awesome examples of the album at it's finest. It's a streamlined sound. Melodic, yet straightforward. Hooky choruses, well-produced sounding vocals. Nothing too crazy. The small details, and the ambient loops make it shine. The bridges between the songs that sound straight out of an old school Appleseed Cast record. It caught me off guard.
