5.0 out of 5 stars great album, May 9, 2005
This review is from: World Series of Love (Audio CD)
You might have heard this group and not even know it. Their track "Swamp" is in the current Hummer TV commercial. Midwest Product is a trio out of Ann Arbor, MI, which is also where their label Ghostly is located. They are one of the best current bands out there that combines rock and electronic music. One of their strengths is that they combine their diverse range of styles into one unified sound. They also put on a killer live show. Their first record, Specifics, was all instrumental, but this one has lead vocals on a few tracks. Recommended if you like New Order, The Postal Service, Kraftwerk, Devo, Tortoise, or Prince.

5.0 out of 5 stars gotta see it to believe, November 16, 2004
This review is from: World Series of Love (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Midwest Product but a friend invited me to a show featuring midwest band "Calliope" and of course "Midwest product". When Midwest Product came on stage they shook the foundations. The cool collected symetry of thier studio music explodes onstage in a funk-filled blowout of electrolosis set to beats and live instrumentation that cannot be rivaled. "the 80's are back" my friend stated as they closed with a robotic but amazing cover of "when doves cry". As everyone reading reviews loves to compare artists, imagine that Mum and Mogwai were swallowed whole and spit back out again by Devo and Emperor Penguin. for starters. truth be told there is no comparison, so buy a copy for yourself and check them out live if they're around!

3.0 out of 5 stars Midwest Product - World Series Of Love, February 25, 2011
This review is from: World Series of Love (Audio CD)
Midwest Product's mini-album, "WORLD SERIES OF LOVE," adds a new instrument to the mix: vocals. From the angsty ravings on "Dead Cat" to the cool (and oddly humorous) 80s drone on "Bank" that would give Ladytron a run for their money, Midwest Product seems to be reaching for indie crossover--even though that's probably not their intention. On the instrumental tracks, "Swamp" sounds as if it could have come off of SPECIFICS, while "Avant Poop" goes for a more aggressive, distorted bass, and "Duckpond," mixes electronic atmospherics with art-rock. The chorus on "Motivator" seems a bit out of place to me, but "Umbrella" closes the album on a quiet, ambient note. Not as cohesive as SPECIFICS, I'm afraid.
