Not just for little ears...,

I bought this CD when I was pregnant & played it almost every night for my son in utero & then after he was born. It's always had the power to soothe him to sleep or at least calm him, & it works wonders for my mood as well! It's a CD I can listen to while driving, too, without becoming too drowsy or hypnotized. It's the most beautiful compliation I have found so far & I highly recommend it as baby's first introduction to world music. Peace!

The BEST Lullaby Collection!,
By A Customer
This review is from: World Music for Little Ears (Audio CD)
We have a nice-size collection of lullaby CD's and WORLD MUSIC FOR LITTLE EARS is by far my son's favorite. He's been listening to it since before he was born and now at 4 1/2 months it's the one that soothes him the best, especially the first wonderful song on the album, an incredibly sweet and poignant Brazilian lullaby sung by a father to his baby in the middle of the night. Our baby boy will stop in mid-cry and become silent when I play "his song" if he gets fussy in the car. There's also an endearing rendition of the Celtic lullaby "Suo Gan" which is also on the Susie Tallman CD, LULLABIES FOR SLEEPY EYES, which I highly recommend. My husband and I both love this CD and have recommended it to friends with small children who love it too. All the songs are sweet (but not overly so), melodic, soothing and interesting enough for adults to enjoy. We never get tired of listening to it! After such a good find I tried other compilations of lullabies from around the world and was kind of disappointed - none are as good as this collection. I cannot recommend it enough!!

Encourages Children to Sleep,

Since they were newborns, part of our daughters' nighttime ritual has been a lullaby CD. This is one of the two CDs that our younger daughter listens to, and it's probably my favorite. It begins with a charming little song in Portuguese (I think the lyrics are about a father trying to get a baby to sleep; there are liner notes, but it's been a long time since I've read them). After that are over a dozen songs in a variety of languages, all perfect for getting a child to sleep, or putting an adult in a very mellow mood. Some of the English-language lullabies you find on other CDs tend to drive me nuts, but after hundreds of listenings, I still enjoy these. I think they're well-suited for older children, too, not just babies.

My baby wouldn't sleep without it,

This album is beautiful. As a parent, it will be one of few moments when you will want to listen to the same thing as your young child. Our daughter's crib was in our room for a long time and all of us fell asleep to these wonderful lullabies. I was actually sad when she outgrew it. I just bought it as a shower gift for the third time. The first two recipients have loved it also.

We played this CD all the time when my son was younger, and still like to listen to it on long drives now that he is five. I've given this one and the Celtic Lullaby to several friends as baby shower gifts, and everyone has loved them! I definitely recommend this or any of the Ellipsis collection to anyone who wants to go beyond Disney and Sesame Street tunes with their kids.

Wonderful, sweet music,

I am now purchasing my third copy of this cd as I love it and so do my children. The others are worn out and scratched from continuous playing and travel. The music is very sweet and gives the child great exposure to other languages (my children are growing up in a multi-language home) and gives them exposure to other languages and dialects of Spanish. I highly recommend this cd to all other parents and child care providers.

Soothe to sleep,

We used this CD when my son was 5-6 months old to soothe him to sleep. We were trying to establish a schedule, and these tunes became part of his sleep routine for a while. Very calming and peaceful for both child and parent desperate to get the baby to sleep!

I agree with the other reviewers. This is the best CD I own. My daughter's (5 months) favorite is the Brazilian one about the seven dwarfs. It calms her right down every time. On long car trips my husband and I keep listening to it long after she's drifted off -- true testiment to its listenability for adult ears!

Two Thumbs Way Up!,
By Jennifer "ksypal" (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews

We got this CD as a shower gift before my daughter was born. She is now almost 18 months months old and has listened to numerous CDs of all genres. This is far and away her favorite. In fact, we have a hard time getting through a meal without her insisting that we play it. While I'm not sure the music is best described as lullaby--it's a little more upbeat than I would expect for lullaby music--it is without a doubt outstanding, clearly not your typical kid music. The muscians on it are just that, muscians, not childrens' entertainers. My advice to anyone with young children considering the purchase of this CD is buy it. You won't be disappointed. Cheers!

Wonderful Collection for Infants and Adults,

My 5 month old son and I enjoy this collection very much. When I put him down for naps and bedtime I turn it on and he is usually asleep by the 3rd song. It is especially wonderful because I love the songs as well. Highly recommended.
