I have been a fan of Angelique Kidjo since the mid 90s when I first saw one of her music videos. Even though I had never heard of her before, I was impressed by her powerful and expressive voice.Ms. Kidjo's interviews are conducted in French with english subtitles. There are also english subtitles when Angelique sings in Fon. The DVD showcased Angelique's return to her homeland of Benin. The film made one thing unequivocally evident: Angelique Kidjo is very proud of her heritage and knows where she belongs. She acknowledges the importance of vodoo to her culture and music. The best part was seeing Angelique on stage, on her turf, and hearing her melodious voice, as she did it her way. |
