Book Description

June 15, 2001 7 and up
This companion to Speaking of Divorce is for kids ages 7–12. In a simple question-and-answer format, the book gently explains what divorce is, why parents decide to divorce, new living arrangements, how to handle feelings, and other basics to help children understand what's happening in their lives.

With honesty and simplicity, the authors help children realize that divorce isn't their fault, strong emotions are okay, and families can survive difficult changes. Written to and for kids, this book is also recommended for parents, educators, counselors, and youth workers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful March 12, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my son who is 9. He didn't understand why we divorced or anything about it. He loves this book. He said it made him feel so much better. I think it is great how it has other children's views written throughout the book. My son felt he was feeling the same way as the other kids, and he knew it was ok.

Great book for anyone with a curious child who doesn't understand.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good teaching tool September 23, 2007
Format:Paperback
I use this book as a tool for providing small group counseling for elementary students. It helps kids understand that they did not cause the divorce so they can't fix it. It helps begin discussions about feelings and concerns they may have about two houses, two families, two sets of rules and other changes that happen as a result of a divorce.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better December 27, 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a clinician, I purchased this book to use with young clients adjusting to
their parents recent decision to divorce. I tried to use this book with children
11 years old and children around 7 years old. The text didn't fit either age group's needs well.
The book is adequate for introducing the idea of divorce. However, the information is a bit simplistic
for an older child whose parents have already divorced.
