5.0 out of 5 stars Another Diamond from the Dungeon Family...
Goodie Mob, like Outkast, changes styles with each release...for artists with a good sense of success, that's downright ambitious and courageous. Goodie Mob and Outkast are essentially modern day Clinton Mother Ship Captains--just as funky, just as creative, just as freaky (check the album jacket). "World Party" is just that, a world party that is...

I found a curious trend among the reviews of this album on this site. Those who review it badly say that Goodie Mob has moved away from its conscience and soulful music. Those who like it say that it's great because it makes them dance. If you want something that will make you dance than I guess this is a good album, although there are a thousand other considerably less promising groups that can do that just as well. Personally I look to Goodie Mob to prompt thought, not dance. This album is a sore let down after the brilliant Still Standing (I think one of the best albums of the 1990's). The argument that "real fans" love this album is bunk. Fan is short for fanatic, and fanatics are not people who would provide accurate information on a subject. I've followed the goodies since Git Up, Git Out and Call of da Wild on Outkast's first album, I loved their first two releases, but even I can say that this album is just not that good. They moved away from what was so good about the first to and into a direction of less challenge and more mass acceptance. There are glaring bits of hypocrisy in the album, most notably in All A's Khujo's verse praising the struggles of oppessed people to gain freedom and ending with the idea that the world would be a better place "if there were less queers." That just doesn't seem to follow, this message decrying oppression followed by an oppressive statement. The song Get Rich to This, while probably good in that it got exposure for the group and radio play (elements of a sell out?), is again contradictory. I remember when Cee-Lo said, "It would be nice to have mo' but I kinda like being po', at least I know what my friends here fo'", apparently that's no longer as important as getting rich. It's this kind of inconsistency that destroys a group's credibility. In all, just a disappointing album. Personally, I'll buy their next one, but if it picks up where World Party left off, it won't be worth the money.

Goodie Mob and Outkast are essentially modern day Clinton Mother Ship Captains--just as funky, just as creative, just as freaky (check the album jacket). "World Party" is just that, a world party that is pan-global funk with ignant flow and rhymes, but it still keeps that down-home realness (Track 5 features a flossin' Goodie Mobster trying to wine-'n-dine a shorty at the Waffle House). The beats are pretty simple, but they really kick. The flow is, as always, greasy-grimey good (especially Cujo's). Other artists might rest on the same style, but it's nice to see Goodie Mob take some chances.

If you are a true Goodie Mob fan, this album is a must-have! Just don't go into it expecting to hear continuations of "Soul Food" or "Still Standing".If so, you will be in for a huge shock. The beats and lyrics are still blazing, but the trademark "lessons in life" that Goodie Mob is known for are not laid out on a platter for you this time. As Cee-Lo would say, you have to "dig deeper than the surface" on this one. They have clearly matured on this album, and we as fans have to continue to support their mission. All A's and Rebuilding have to be two of the tightest tracks ever! Cee-Lo truly shines on this cd. Go get it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as I first thought..., December 30, 2003

When I first heard this CD, I was disapointed because I was expecting another "Still Standing" and this is clearly not it. After listening to it again a year later, I found that I am really startin to dig this CD! For anyone who said it was disapointing, I encourage them to listen to it again.

The 4 man crew out the Atl.. has revamped their southern comfort hip hop stylings.. this album is least conscious-rap to their previous two albums.. the results? a more light hearted effort concentrating more on party grooves then bangin some one in the head with heavy messages.. it's not goin completely which is good because you need to put something on the mind as well as make people bounce and this album succeeds on both levels .. also they work with more outside producers then in the past.. but the Dungeon fam makes their presences known on several cuts.. Some of the best tracks

Rebuilding- a hard hitting track about self-empowerment, community

Cutty Buddy

What it aint (Featuring TLC)

World Party

Just Do it

Pick it up folks peace

2.0 out of 5 stars There not "Still Standing", and there is no "Soul" in this.., January 13, 2000

As an avid Goodie MOb fan I don't like the road they took with their latest release. I'd like to quote C-Lo from their first CD "Soul Food". He says " I wish I had more, but I like being poor at least I know what my friends are for...". But now they're "Getting rich to this". this CD is a complete 180 from there more home-grown roots in their '95 release. They're jumping on the "money is everthing" wagon, like such artists as Puff Daddy and other rine-stoned rappers. Ian Mitchell

2.0 out of 5 stars The World Aint Partyin', June 12, 2007
This review is from: World Party (Audio CD)
I know that Soul Food and Still Standing were classics but I also know that this album is mainstream garbage. Its never a good look to hear rappers whose songs had social and political commentary on them make an album like this but I dont blame them. I blame Arista records and L.A Greed. The Good: The D-dot produced Chain Swang is pretty dope(and so is the remix with Xzibit)and Rebuilding reminds you of the Goodie Mob that once was. Fie Fie Delish and All A's are great tracks too. The Bad: World Party is corny as hell but what do you expect when you sample Lionel Richie. Street Corner is as boring as it gets. TLC(Rip Left Eye)join Goodie Mob on the lackluster club effort What It Aint(Ghetto Enuff). The Ugly: Get Rich To This is the worst record that Goodie Mob has ever made and I seem to be the only one who realizes that. The Dip and Cutty Buddy are tied when it comes to awful sounding garbage and Just Do It is the most obvious rush job track on this album.
Bottom Line: Goodie Mob's World Party is their worst album ever. Even that mediocre album One Monkey Dont Stop No Show(whatever it was called) wasnt as bad as this one. The production was tame, the lyrics were hohum and T-Mo becomes the U-God of this Wu Tang Clan(surprise?) The sad thing about this album is that some youngster is going to hear it and think that this is the best that Goodie Mob has to offer, ignorant of the fact that superb albums like Soul Food and Still Standing exist. Dont blame Goodie Mob for this album blame the record label and that lowlife bottom feeder record executive that told them that they need to make songs about getting dome.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best CD's, December 25, 1999
This review is from: World Party (Audio CD)
I've always been a big goodie mob fan ever since they dropped soul food. This cd is tight as hell and has some of the best lyrics. every song is good on here and I think anyone into spiritual music or outkast or groups like that should definitely check this cd out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Join the Party, December 22, 1999

This review is from: World Party (Audio CD)
The third effort from this Atlanta based trio is filled with the tight beats and ill lyrics that we have come to expect from them. What seperates it from their previous efforts is the obvious international music influence, which is a nice change from their usually street-oriented production.Soulful, southern melodies and uptempo raps highlight this record. A couple of weak party cuts and a forced collaboration with TLC are the albums only bad points. Goodie Mob fans should be more than pleased with their new sound. Those who listen with a closed mind may want to avoid this one. Overall, a solid output that brings some much needed originality to the hip hop scene. I would highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not Too Good..., April 21, 2002
This review is from: World Party (Audio CD)
Goodie MoB fumbled the ball on their third release World Party. I can't really put my finger on what this album is missing but it is missing SOMETHING. It doesn't pack the punch of earlier Goodie MoB releases. The production is a little bit weaker on the cd, even though the rapping for the most part is excellent. Perhaps it is the theme of a `party' throughout the cd that makes it feel incomplete. The soul is still there in the music but not as much knowledge is dropped on this cd as on previous releases. They also let other producers other than Earthtone 3 and Organized Noize handle some of the production and that gives it a less cohesive feel. Most of the tracks don't compliment the group's style. There are some gems though such as Chain Swang- a tight song about doin your thang, Get Rich To This- the first single for the clubs, All A's, Fie Fie Delish, ICU, What It Aint- the TLC collabo, and Rebuilding-drops some knowledge. It pains me to say this because Goodie MoB is an innovative and inventive group with lots of soul and substance, But the album as a whole isn't that spectacular. I wouldn't recommend buying it now unless you are working on a collection or you see it used, but I wouldn't sell it either. This could possibly be the worst Dungeon Family affiliated release ever. Don't buy this cd.
