5.0 out of 5 stars Really upbeat, my son loves to dance and sing to this album
This is a great album, lots of upbeat music my son loves - and so do I! I actually listen to it doing housework and its energy keeps me going!

2.0 out of 5 stars Is this bawdy Maori song suitable for young children?
I am unhappy with the New Zealand song "Epo i Tai Tai" being on this young children's CD. It is a bawdy chorus for adults. It was used by New Zealand's Maori soldiers during WW2 any time they heard a sentimental love song.

E po (at night) e taitai (up high) e tukituki (thrusting).

The soppy sentimentality of a song like Lili Marlene was stripped away when this salty chorus was added afterwards.

"Underneath the lantern by the barrack gate,
darling I remember the way you used to wait...
E po e taitai e! E po e taitai e!
E po e taitai, e po e tukituki....

A bawdy comment on what Lili was really waiting for!

This chorus evolved from a frank (but very private) courting song of the same tune "E Puru Taitama e" (I'm a thrusting young bullock) written by Kingi Tahiwi of Otaki in about 1910, and recorded a a salty jazz song by other family members in 1930.

Even now (2006) in New Zealand, this song is only sung by Maori adults, late at night as a "cheeky party song," and it is never sung to visitors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great CD for all ages, April 25, 2008

My daughter's music teacher played two songs from this CD and I was hooked. If you like to dance, especially Latin dance, this music will get you moving. My daughter is not particular to this CD, because she is used to the CD's from her music class, however, she is not averse to it. I love the world beats, tempos, and the variation of tracks. Lyrics are simple and limited. Each track is largely an instrumental with lyrics injected here and there. Very pleasant music and great as background music for a party, BBQ, cooking, cleaning house, etc.

This CD is simply amazing. I sample a lot of world music CDs, including the Putumayo, Timelife collections. But this one beats all the other ones I have. Songs from all over the world, with very different and unique sounds. My favourite is song No. 7: Joyita Andina, but all of the songs in this CD are extremely good and nice. I dont know why this is marketed as 'music for little people'. It is in fact, a must listen for all ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Suitable for a true World Party!, October 28, 2004
This review is from: World Party! (Audio CD)
I bought this for my children a couple of years ago, and they love it. The songs from around the world are fun and upbeat. They have everybody's feet tapping with a cool, exotic sound that everyone can relate to. We just started a new non-profit organization teaching children compassion to the Earth, people, and animals, and we were searching for the right music for our first major event. Then we remembered this CD, and it is perfect!
