Geniuses At Work,

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were comic geniuses. There's no way around that. The brilliant writing and spot-on performances were nearly always absolutely hysterical. Cook, the Writer, was unmatched. Cook, the Actor, perhaps less so, but his deadpan approach (vocally as well as facially) was always a perfect counterpart for Dudley Moore's animated delivery. The ad libbing between these two was always wonderful to experience.
My only disapppointment with this CD is that it isn't twice as long. A two- or three-CD set would still only have scratched the surface. But what's there is "cherce." Sadly, of course, neither man is still with us, but thanks to this album -- as well as a handful of things on video (though more of the latter should be made available in NTSC for Americans to appreciate)-- will help preserve what they did. |
