5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for a child's library.
This lovely boxed set of Potter stories, individually bound in the size prescribed by the author herself, suitable for little hands, is a treasure to have. The presentation box makes them easy to keep together as a set. The collection makes a wonderful baby gift for someone special!

3.0 out of 5 stars not what I thought
it's a nice collection, just smaller than I thought. The books are only 4 x 5. Too small for a child to read and hard for an adult to read and show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Family Treasure, May 3, 2003
My children grew up reading these beautiful little books. Our set is identical to the one pictured, only we bought ours in the early 90s. Now with one in college and one who is a "punk rocker" I can *still* get them both to curl up with me and read Tom Kitten or Jemima PuddleDuck or The Roly-Poly Pudding or their favorite...Ginger and Pickles. Amazing, but true. Both my kids treasure this collection in its lovely case and the set was a very wise purchase. After all, stories like this keep your kids close to you, it is almost a ritual, and a good thing! Other editions of these stories are fine, but there is something about the little books and the special case that creates a sort of magic. Well worth the expense...I *promise.*

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales That Span Generations..., April 10, 2002

One Patriotic Citizen (Fairfax Station, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This Peter Rabbit collection is a tiny world of parables, stories and lessons for children and adults of all ages. The beauty of the books is greatly enhanced by their encapsulation in a darling box, and they are just the right size for small hands to look through and admire. The simple pictures tell the story even without words! They are a wonderful addition for the bookshelf of your child, and the lessons they teach are most appropriate today- in a world where trouble exists and ethics are compromised.

5.0 out of 5 stars aesthetic integrity, June 11, 2004
By printing each tale as a separate book, this boxed series presents Potter's tales in the form they were originally published. The format allows each story to unfold with a deliberate pace, as the turning of each page reveals a fresh illustration alongside a few sparse lines of text. In contrast, a so-called "complete tales of" volume I looked at totally destroyed the aesthetic integrity of Potter's work by squeezing entire stories into 2 or 3 11" x 8" pages. Furthermore, the illustrations no longer followed the storyline in a linear fashion but instead looked like haphazard afterthoughts. I would recommend this series for preserving that almost undefinable "charm" of the originals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just as I'd remembered them, March 24, 2005
When I was a young child we had many (all?) of the Beatrix Potter books. My favorite was the gruesomely fascinating story of the cat (naughty, of course) who was rolled up in pie dough by a rat family, narrowly escaping being served as dinner.

As to content, I suppose the stories do tend to be a bit drastic in their portrayal of the inevitable consequences of naughtiness, maybe a little old-fashioned. On the other hand, if the conjuring of rats dressed as people administering justice to naughty cats dressed as people helps shape my son's understanding of the expedience of obedience, about choice and consequence, so be it; my direct admonishments (lectures?) certainly seem to bounce off his mighty 3-year-old teflon shield. And it beats telling him that the police are going to come get him, which is a favorite threat to children here in Germany (Go figure! Scary!!). Then again, perhaps I've got it all wrong, and the books were meant actually to celebrate mischief.

Anyway, these have the old, familiar dark green cover under protective book jackets, with pages of thick, shiny, resilient paper. Great illustrations, no dumbed-down language. The box is also really nice. My three-year-old boy is captivated by them. This box set is of heirloom quality, I'd say. Nice gift (thanks, Grammy)!

5.0 out of 5 stars Corrections to Editorial Review, December 10, 2001
By A Customer
This is a great boxed set, but the Editorial Review must be about another set. This one does not have a lock and handle and it has 23 books, not 12. Just so you know...

5.0 out of 5 stars Life in a Simpler Time, November 30, 2005

This is a wonderful collection of beautifully written tales that takes you and your child away from the noisy world of tv, electonic games, and tacky animation to a time of innocence and simplicity. These books provide an opportunity to instill a love of reading with your child as you snuggle together to read the mischievous tales of Peter Rabbit. A great find!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for bedtime, April 1, 2005

(REAL NAME)
These stories are beautifully illustrated and do not 'talk down' to their listeners. They truly are tales and are just about the right length for sleepytime. We have received other anthology-type gifts and the books are always very cumbersome. These are the perfect size for reading at bedtime with your little ones because they fit in your hands and don't weigh ten pounds. (to disagree with a couple of the reviewers)

Our daughter is receiving this for her third birthday, even though we have a couple of the stories already. She has enjoyed Mr. Tod and Tommy Brock (the scary ones) and Jemima Puddle Duck since she was one and I believe that the stories will continue to grow with her. And someday, hopefully, she will have these books to hand down to her children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Rabbit, January 16, 2006
I bought this set for my niece who lives in KS. She will undoubtedly grow to love these stories. Using Amazon was a much cheaper option instead of purchasing in Australia and posting to KS. Also the price was far cheaper too

Very happy all round

5.0 out of 5 stars The World of Peter Rabbit Original Presentation Box 1-23, July 25, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This item is Excellent for a child learning about the world. Beatrix Potter's stories are the best way for anyone to learn reading. The best of all is that an adult enjoys this item by feeling like a child again and learning life in the same way. As a retired college teacherI definitely recommend this "Presentation Box 1-23 The World of Peter Rabbit" to EVERYONE who wants to be educated.
