We tried the more cartoonish Crocodile Creek place mats first, and they have beautiful illustrations, but the paint comes off after about a month of wiping them off. Not so pretty after that. We also tried the Painless Learning mats and the laminate started to peel after a couple of months. Also a thumbs down. The M. Ruskin mats are totally durable, definitely educational and fun for even my husband and me!

It's a placemat with a world map. We use it at the kitchen table. It's pretty durable, and easy to clean. My son likes it.

I needed a durable world map to teach my kids the continents and was so happy to come across this. We use it at meals which encourages and reinforces learning and it's just the right size, big enough to see, small enough to put away.

I bought this in order to have an easy way to show my son (2.5 year old) how USA/North America where he lives is separated by an ocean from Europe where his grandparents live. This is a real map with longitudes, latitudes and updated with all new European countries. Colors are little different from what is depicted in the image (the waters are more blue, more primary colors). The flipside has the same map showing outlines of the countries in black and white, but country names are not shown ...I suppose one can practice to recognize the countries by their shapes. Good stuff!

I use this placemat in my 5th grade class. Each child can have their own map while we learn how to locate cities and countries using lattitude and longitude readings. Works great!! I do not use it for fun. However, the kids think it is fun to find some of their favorite places.

I bought this placemat along with several others to periodically rotate between my kids. If they're in a quiet mood or are the last slow eaters left at the table, they often end up staring at the map, comparing sizes of countries, recognizing the names of places they've heard on TV, in movies, books, etc. And there's no silly cartoons, flags, or other distractions; just political boundaries and capital cities. Makes learning seamless and part of their daily living! The placemat seems as well made as could be for a plastic placemat and I expect to hold up for a long time.

My 4 year old son loves this placemat. He can point out continents now and countries where various family members live. I love that we can sneak these 'mini geography' sessions in at meal times-makes it fun & stress free!

It is (unfortunately) just a laminated board, but hasn't gotten ruined yet and is used daily.

Bought these placemats for my daughters, they are just learning the different continents and countries. This is a great way to keep them occupied and learn at the same time during meals. Product is great, but realized that the erase markers leave a slight stain on the mats, is not easy to erase.
