Xtatik-Trinadad(Music Farm) 3. Barachois-Canada(La Marmotteuse) 4. La Senorita Dinamita-Columbia(A Mover La Colita) 5. Toots & The Maytals-Jamiaca(Freedom Train) 6. Maixa Ta Ixiar-Spain/Bosque(Zuhaitzarena) 7. Djamel Allam-Algeria(Nezha) 8. Claudia Martinez-Mexico(Nichum Vuil) 9. Lucky Ali-India(Teri Yaadein) 10. Miriam Makeba-South Africa(Pata Pata) Also included in the liner notes are the lyrics and a brief synopsis of the music/artist/country.

multicultural must - have!,

I received this as a gift recently. I have never heard of any of the artists on it, but I will tell you it is excellent. The tone of the songs has that "get your blood pumpin'" feeling. All of the songs seem very original to me. They are very heavy on the percussion (some primative) instruments. 1. It would be an excellent CD to showcase different cultures in a music class setting, with a discussion. Listen to each song, then find where it came from on a globe with your children. Some of the songs are in English, but it doesn't really matter what they are saying because each song sounds great. Music brings the world closer together, and this CD really proves that.

great intro to world music,

I bought the first Playground cd and loved it so much, I'm glad they finally made a second. Not only did my children enjoy it, but I found myself buying albums form the various artists represented.
It is a great cd to play in the car while driving your kids around from place to place. They will not only benefit from hearing music but learn a little bit about different cultures through the different languages sung and rhythms produced. I would recommend buying this and the first cd.

Not quite as good as World Playground 1,
By Isabelle (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews

I received the World Playground 1 as a gift, and really enjoyed the beat and rhythm of the songs (I have been playing it over and over again while dancing my 2-month-old baby to sleep). I bought this second one later on, and my first impression was that it was not as good as the first one. The stories behind the songs are as interesting, but I found the music did not have the same intensity the first one had. In fact, I had to listen to the songs a couple of times before being able to fully appreciate it.

Our favorite,

This is definately my 19-month-old daughter's favorite album. We play it in the car whenever she gets fussy and she quiets right down. I have to admit that I enjoy it enough myself that I occasionally listen to it when I am in the car alone.

Fun and upbeat,

I bought this CD for my nephew (who is only 2) and he loves it. He claps his hands and starts dancing whenever the CD is on. It is fun and upbeat. You'll want it for yourself! It's a refreshing change from the usual lullaby or nursery rhyme CDs, and it exposes children to a whole new world of music.

I like to put on upbeat music when I have to iron or clean house - I reserve Fats Domino for when I have to paste wax the floor - the task becomes fun when I'm listening to Mr. Domino - but for everday "dusting a bit and making an occasional cheese dip" this CD is great fun. I think children would really love it, too.

Very fun music for children and everyone!,

I teach young children and I love using world music for musical and movement improvisation. This is a really excellent collection of very happy, rhythmic, interesting music. I especially love "Music Farm" by XTatik - it riffs on "Old MacDonald" - the children are always excited and delighted when they hear the "E-I-E-I-O" and I think it's a great learning experience for them to hear this in such a different musical context. Also, it's incredibly catchy and fun. I highly recommend this CD!
