Surprisingly Well Done All-Round Poker Title,
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: World Series of Poker (Video Game)
I had no idea what I was getting when I bought this, but I really wanted to have a poker game for my newly-bought PSP. WSOP didn't get a high rating for other platforms such as PS2 and PC, so I didn't expect much, but I was surprised how glued I was to this game.
Graphics/Sound: Commentary by ESPN's Lon McEachern himself as well as another poker star. With PSP's Dolby-Surround sound, put on the headphones and you swear you're in Vegas Poker Room: Whispers, laughs and soft rustling of the surrounding chips blends in very well! Customize your character's physical features as well as clothes, glasses, jewerly and you can even wear World Series that you have won. Better yet...show off the bracelets that you have won to other online players(Multiplayer section is below.) Career Mode/Difficulty: You start off with $10,000 each year and you must decide which WSOP event you want to participate in: Blow your money on the main event or wager some of the money on other events as seen on ESPN: Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7-Card Stud and even Razz! Playing these tournaments can take 2 hours of non-continuos playing; Don't worry, you can save at anytime and come back later. In the old days, most computer players would raise if they had a good hand and fold if they had a bad hand, but no here! Computer AI is very, very intelligent: Don't expect a lot from a no-name player, but if its a Pro-Player, expect lots of aggressiveness, re-raises, bluffs and semi-bluffs. Of course, you can't read Computer's body language, but you can analyze actions on pre-flop, flop, turn, etc...Anylizing these factors is often very realistic. Object of the game: In addition to participating in poker events, a very addictive feature is to collect 200 or so "collector chips." Each Collector's Chip represents a GOAL/TASK that you must complete in the game. When you start the game, you will complete the very easy goals at first, like winning a hand with one pair, two pair, etc... However, there are other tougher goals in the game that will earn you other chips: Going All-In and winning in a tournament, reaching final tables will also earn you career goals and my favorite goal-reaching activities is to knock out celebrity or state champs at the tables! Therefore, in order to complete this game 100%, you have to do a lot in your career. For example, I still cannot get my "Royal Flush" collector chip and I still never knocked out Chris Furguson. However, playing tournaments and trying to knock the pros out is what makes it fun and earns you collector chips! Every time you complete a goal, a screen pops up with a mini animation explaning to you what you have done! Online/Multiplayer: You can play online via your PC Link connector. GameSpy is the host for all these games. At peak times, you can usually find 10-20 people. I hope you don't buy the game for this feature alone; However...you can wager the collector chips that you won in single player against other players in Sit And Go Tables. However, if you lose the game online, you are losing the collector chip that you have wagered! Bottom Line: You won't find many poker titles better than this one, especially for PSP. Very intelligent Computer AI will keep you challenged and entertained.

Great career mode,

This game is excellent. In fact, I have never seen a better career mode for a poker game in my life. You start off with a bankroll of $10,000 where you can use it to enter tournaments ranging from $1,000 to the main event which is $10,000. I used all my money on the main event which had many poker pros and great AI in some of the players. I finished 43 out of 6600 and now I have more than enough money for everything from my winnings. In career mode you can play tons of types of games ranging from 7 card stud to Hold'em. Unfortunately I don't know how to play some of the games. Another part of career mode is earning collector chips, that you get by completing various tasks in the game such as getting a type of hand, knocking out a certain amount of people, or knocking out a professional poker player. I have only collected about half the collector chips, and earning some of them, like getting a royal flush in a game. Also, you can show off any bracelets you have earned online, but there aren't usually many players who play online. This is okay though as online really doesn't offer much more AI than the computers do.
Many people are anticipating the realease of Stacked, another PSP poker game, but in the meantime this will suit you just fine. This game may actually be better.

Great Game, but graphics are lacking,
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

If you love poker, buy this game. Don't even read the rest of this review, just simply buy it. If all you want is an easy and fun way to play poker I highly recommend WSOP for the PSP. If, however, you are looking for amazing, mind blowing graphics, pass this up. Lets face it, this is no Socom Fireteam Bravo when it comes to graphics. But if you can get past that, and the fact that the commentaries are dull and repetitive, then you have a very good game.
I love poker so this was a great title to me. The Career mode is VERY lengthy. You will probably spend days getting through the main WSOP event, which is made up off, on average, 6000+ competitors, of which you probably play 75 to 100 of. There are also a number of other tournaments for you to play, such as Omaha, texas hold em, and seven card stud. I also liked being able to customize my player, even if it isn't the deepest character creator I've seen. Another commen problem is the AI, which are often very dumb and predictable (for instance, every time they touch both hands to there chin while thinking, they are bluffing.) Even if you don't know how to play Texas Hold em (or Razz, Omaha, etc.) you will most likly pick it up very quickly. Any time during game play you can click R1 to what hand beats the other hand. Lastly, if you are not sure you want to buy the game, rent it. WSOP on the PSP makes for a good multiplayer game, but there are so many missing elements, that your love of poker has to outway your dislike of this game. Replay value is what pulled the trigger for me to pay twenty dollars for this game and I have enjoyed it. Gameplay: 5 out of 5 Graphics: 1 out of 5 Sound: 2 out of 5 Replay value: 5 out of 5 Price: 5 out of 5 Final: 3.6(4 stars out of 5) 2115|R2MJTGLUKIWVK0;2115|RM04LXQ7GNSX5;2115|R2LTPSAWKQWXIT;
