From the Back Cover

Introducing The World of Psychology: Portable Edition — the first portable, modular introductory psychology text with fully integrated study materials and built-in connections to MyPsychLab™ – providing instructors and students the ultimate in flexibility and choice!

The World of Psychology has always done more to help students succeed than any other introductory psychology text. Recognizing that different students have different learning preferences and success strategies, this best-selling text offers a wide variety of field-tested support tools.

Now students have an even better shot at success, and professors have even more flexibility. The Portable Edition offers an innovative format with new study material and media integration.

  • More than modular, the text is portable! This handy slipcase contains six booklets, each reflecting a major unit of the introductory psychology course. The portability gives students the option to read, study, and self-assess anywhere, anytime, and any way they choose!
  • The text’s chapters have been redesigned and organized into numbered modules, giving instructors more flexibility about which material they assign to their students.
  • Each booklet contains two to four chapters, with built-in Study Guides and Practice Tests directly following each chapter, so students have more opportunities for self-assessment and reinforcement of key concepts.
  • Unique to the Portable Edition are integrated MyPsychLab icons throughout the text to help students make full use of this great online learning tool. The icons direct students to the rich media assets and self-assessment tools in MyPsychLab at the point in the text where these assets will help students the most. 2.0 out of 5 stars Beware--Book's access code can only be used once!, May 23, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
As a parent buying this book for my student's summer course, it was agony spending nearly $120 for a book that could only be used once. The book contains an online access code that can't be transferred to another student. The second user would have to purchase his own access code for an additional $60. Without the access code, the student can't access the website where exams and communication with the instructor take place. What a underhanded way to make a lot of money! This method of taking advantage of students should not be allowed to continue. The resale value of this book is extremely low.

3.0 out of 5 stars loophole around $60 online subscription possible!, January 8, 2009
This review is from: World of Psychology: Portable Edition, The (Paperback)
I saw that a lot of people had written in their reviews how ridiculous it was for them to charge so much for the textbook as well as the online MyPsychLab access code.
I took this course a few semesters ago and have decided to resale my book. Having originally thought that I didn't use "MyPsychLab", I thought it would be easier on someone else trying to save some money. Much to my surprise; however, I did actually use the access code.

I just talked to a customer service representative and he said it's possible to *change* the username and password to an account. In other words, you might be able to access the MyPsychLab if you purchase a used book without having to shell out another $60...just ask your seller. All they would need to do is change their username, email address and password listed in MyPsychLab, tell the buyer (you) the changes, and then you would have to do the same.

Here's the log in page to make account changes:

Hope this helps out!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Intro Psych, January 9, 2008
I bought my book used, without the online access code since it can only be used once. However, if you don't need the online access code, it's really a great book that explains everything well. I have no complaints about the book itself, the problem isn't the book, it's the seller. Make sure you know if you're getting a usable code if you are buying this book used. Otherwise, don't buy it. It's that simple.
