Interviews with a Dying Tradition, June 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Qian Mu and the World of Seven Mansions (Asian Studies) (Hardcover)
Interviews with Qian Mu, a recently deceased traditionalist Chinese scholar, are documented in Dennerline's work. As one of the world's foremost sinologists, Dennerline, a professor at Yale, is probably one of the most capable scholars to undertake such a task. To the student of contemporary Chinese scholarship the book is invaluable, because it documents the final years of Qian Mu's life in an easily understandable manner. It also provides a number of rare photographs. The writing, however, is a little dry.

This review is from: Qian Mu and the World of Seven Mansions (Asian Studies) (Hardcover)
Jerry Dennerline, a professor at Yale, is one of the foremost sinologists and in _World of Seven Mansions_ he documents a number of discussions and interviews with Qian Mu (now deceased) a famous traditionalist scholar from the mainland. Dennerline's style is easily readable and enjoyable. The topic is a bit esoteric, but for anyone interested in learning about recent Chinese scholarship, it is invaluable.
