3.0 out of 5 stars Strawberry Alarm Clock - 'The World In A Nut Shell' (Uni), July 25, 2008
This review is from: World in a Sea Shell (Audio CD)
Band's third 'actual' lp that first came out in 1968. Not quite as good as the SBAC'S first two records 'Incense And Peppermints' and 'Psych Out' but okay, you understand. Couple of these tracks I thought were notable are the upbeat "A Million Miles Away", "Barefoot In Baltimore", "Heated Love" and the Monkees-like "Blues For A Young Girl Gone". Might grow on you each time you play it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not 1/100th the maturity of Abbey Road!, December 16, 2010

I was not really going to review this album, but after reading the other review saying that this is essentially as good as The Beatles "Abbey Road", I just had to say something. Do not buy this album expecting anything nearly as valid of an artistic statement as an album like "Abbey Road". That is just insane. What you have here is very very dated, lightweight, pop-psych. While there are some nice baroque-style instrumental passages in places, and the playing is strong (as in most of their material), the songwriting is not very good. Also, some of the singing is painfully flat, and like all of the bands material the lyrics are so dated, cliched, and just plain bad that they are often hilarious. From what I understand, it was because of the ridiculously bad lyrics that the record label got outside writers to write about half of the songs on this album. That really didn't help matters at all because that material is even lamer than the bands original material. If you have to check out any of the bands material other than the song "Incense and Peppermints", then check out their last album "Good Morning Starshine". That one has a different singer, and a little more "ballsy" material. I'm not saying that it's great or anything, but it's a bit more bearable than the bands other stuff.

this 1968 release "World In A Sea Shell has the same brilliance & maturity & compares strongly to The Beatles Abbey Road"
