This review is from: The World of Spirits and Ancestors: In the Art of Western Sub-Saharan Africa (Hardcover)
I would not recommend this book to anyone unless they want to see the Texas Tech collection or have some specific connection to it. There are better books on collections, and much better quality photographs and representative tribal pieces on the market than this. Having said that, there are some very nice pieces represented in the book, and if you plan to visit this museum or want a record of what you saw, this would be an excellent choice. Some of the pieces are quite nice, including Luba, Baule, Dogon and others. The photos could be much better (some are slightly out of focus, some are not presented as well as they could be), but you do get a good sense of the quality of the art.
