I was required to read this for a class I took at a junior college; however, I think it is great outside of class as well. It touches on semantics and understanding the underlying messages to be read in the real world. There are some great essays and books in there that demonstrate propagated racism as well as other suggestions in the media that people would not automatically consider. It empowers readers with an insight into the intentions of modern media that would otherwise go unnoticed or misunderstood. It's good educationally and definitely applicable in the real world.

had to buy for an english class. Not too fond of english classes so outside of it being a required book, I would not read it. But is a good supplement to a course.
