This review is from: The World of the Walrus (Hardcover)
Ever since I fell in love with walruses at a very young age, I have been craving for the perfect book about these marine mammals. I just may have found it in The World of the Walrus. Having everything from biology, to history, to the walruses place in pop culture. Walrus lover or not, you are sure to enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and thorough reference and picture book, August 17, 2006

This review is from: The World of the Walrus (Hardcover)
The World of the Walrus is the book to get if you're looking for a good book about walruses; it serves both as an excellent reference book and a luscious picture book. As such, it's a must for any walrus lover.

In this book, Peter Knudtson approaches the subject of the walrus step by step, deeply and thoroughly, describing each aspect of walrus life with a clear yet pleasingly inventive choice of words. The book undertakes everything from the birth of calfs to walruses in literature and pop music. Packed with both facts and personal thoughts about the intriguing marine mammal, along with page-sized photographs of all sorts of walrus situations, The World of the Walrus is essential in any walrus devotee's library.

There is only one thing I can criticise - Knudtson claims that the Icelandic word for walrus is 'hross-hvalr'. I am Icelandic, and this is incorrect; it's 'rostungur'. But this is a small, very understandable error that does not overshadow the book's overall quality in any way - I absolutely love this book, being a big walrus fan myself. It holds a good spot in my collection.

Hubby collects walruses and finding books at great prices and other goodies is great fun for me. This coffee-table book has amazing pictures of walruses and I think anyone who loves walruses will love this book.
