4.0 out of 5 stars Sputnik and solo offerings, March 13, 2001
By
This review is from: World War Four (Audio CD)
Sigue Sigue Sputnik were one of those great bands from the eighties that made music fun and full of energy. The press, who initially created their popularity, were also responsible for their downfall. This sad state of affairs looms dismally over the solo offering of (Now reformed) Sputnik lead vocalist Matin Degville. He has a sharp clear voice that reminds one of a singing sex machine. The "chugga chugga" beats and space guitar are there - but the cyber punk influence of Tony James is missing. The tracks seem to blend seamlessly into one another and recall the past highs of the sputniks. It's generally a great ablum - go buy now!

This record (when it came out)was a cool continuation from his SS Sputnik work, but with a cool guitar partner in Mick Rossi and more straight forward songs. When I first heard this,I knew he hit the nail on the head, mixing electronic rock and roll with sleazy punk, was pure gold! My copy is autographed and is one of my most prized items in my rock and roll collection. (Teddy Heavens)

5.0 out of 5 stars GREATEST - ALBUM - EVER, June 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: World War Four (Audio CD)
If you are interested in this album, chances are you are a fan of Sigue Sigue Sputnik. And fans of Sigue Sigue Sputnik will NOT be disappointed with Martin Degville's "World War 4". It's better than "Dress for Excess" and EASILY at least as good as "Flaunt It". It is World War 4 where Martin Degville, one of the worlds greatest singers truly shines. The music is extremely catchy and very "Sputnik-like". As great as Spunkik was, this time there was nothing holding Degville back. I first found this LP back in 1991 when it was released, and I swear even to this day it's one of my favorites, and no matter how many times I listen to it, it always FEELS like the first time. This album is filled with so much good feeling and emotion, that one almost gets the feeling that Martin is some kind of supernatural being. The album opens with the blistering "Nuclear Powered Sex Machine", and almost every track that follows is once catchy classic after the next. The album perhaps comes to it's climax with the unbelievably awesome "Freak show city" (track 7) before settling into that last 4 tracks which are "just good". This was Martin's first and (so far) only solo album, and it would stand as an accomplishment OF A LIFETIME for any artist. Easily up there with Sputnik's "Flaunt it" or the Sex Pistols "Never mind the bollocks". It's that good. Get this album while you can. Don't hestitate: It's a sure thing.
