A "must have" resource for divers heading to Truk, December 17, 1999
This review is from: World War II: Wrecks of the Kwajalein and Truk Lagoons (Hardcover)
Dan writes a heck of a book. Accurate to the details available, well researched and interesting to read. There are a few possible errors, such as the identification of the Sankisan Maru as the ex Red Hook, but overall the book is great. The next revision is due soon and the new one should be even better.

Excellent for wreck divers to learn history of truk dives, April 16, 1998

This review is from: World War II: Wrecks of the Kwajalein and Truk Lagoons (Hardcover)
If you are interested in knowing the history of the wrecks you dive, this book is for you. It contains extremely detailed histories of the battles of Truk lagoon and each of the ships. It has maps and analyses that put most other guide books to shame -- if you want the detail it is here.
What makes the book good for divers, in addition to amature historians of WWII battles in the pacific, is that it is written by a diver. The author takes the time to bring each wreck's history into what you see as a diver checking out the wreck -- what to look for and what to watch out for.
If you are diving truk and you are interested in the wrecks, this is a must buy and read. If you are going to Truk and you are not interested in the wrecks, go to Palau.
