Very well done! The color photos were excellent adding a whole new dimension to that horrendous conflict. Jeffrey J. Ethell and Warren M. Bodie have done a great service to all who participated in the Pacific war.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superior color photos of the Pacific war in the air, July 8, 2010

This review is from: World War II Pacific War Eagles: China/Pacific Aiir War in Original Color (Hardcover)
Another book in the series by authors Bodie and Ethell that present some truly marvelous color photographs of WW2 aircraft, airmen and airwomen and facilities.

The material has been collected from several sources; some are photo sets done by 'offical' photographers, while others are from personal collections. What makes the presentation so stunning is that the negatives have been very carefully handled and the paper in the book is of high quality. The result is high-clarity, detailed images that suffer not at all from colors running or focus issues. For me, seeing these images in color bring an intimacy to the subjects that I do not feel as strongly with black and white versions of the same picture.

So why did I give this book a Good rating rather than an Excellent one? I found the text to be a bit weak in terms of placing the photos in a context. Maybe I'm being harsh; maybe I should accept that this is a 'coffee table' photo that is visual rather than narrative in thrust. Either way, the book is worth obtaining.
