Grade 7 Up-A sweeping overview of U.S. participation in the Pacific war. Although there is not really anything new here, Stein packs a great deal of information into this slim volume and manages to do so without oversimplification. The narrative is arranged in basic chronological order, from the attack on Pearl Harbor to the signing of the surrender documents aboard the U.S.S. Missouri, and is enlivened by direct, no-nonsense prose, the prudent use of quotations, black-and-white archival photographs, and helpful maps. Chapter notes on the primary and secondary sources included and an age-appropriate list for further reading are appended.
