Book Description

May 1, 2006
For beginners and long-time tea lovers alike, this engaging book explains the practice of tasseomancy, or reading tea leaves. The hands-on exercises and activities are complemented by background information on the history of tea, growing tea plants, tea drying and processing, and the best equipment and techniques for brewing. Rather than the mystical focus usually associated with reading tea leaves, this presentation emphasizes rational and intuitive processes such as learning old traditions, observing carefully, finding patterns, and enjoying a few minutes of concentration.

This review is from: The World in Your Cup: A Handbook in the Ancient Art of Tea Leaf Reading (Hardcover)
I bought this book because of my curiosity about tea leaf reading, and I was skeptical. Now, I not only feel knowledgeable, but I feel as if this is a method that can really work. First, the authors did an exceptional job researching tea--its history, its forms, its cultural relevance. By the time I got to the tasseomancy section of the book, I already felt I knew enough about tea to treat it like the special substance it is. You will fine none of the cheesy descriptions often found in other books on divination. Tasseomancy is described in vibrant detail as a psychological effort among the questioner, the reader, and the patterns in the leaves. I finished this book feeling greatly advanced in my metaphysical studies. In my opinion, this is a must have on the shelves of any diviner, metaphysicist, magician, occultist, or even just a tea enthusiast.
