5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album , July 22, 2004
By H. BARNWELL (MINNESOTA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The World Is Yours (Audio CD)
A classic album - This album was one of the first to move away from samples?and use live instruments ? great arrangements - beautiful & disturbing lyrics - Scarface is the Father of Southern Hip Hop. Scarface and his Geto Boys redefined the Gangsta/Hardcore genre ? Several MC?s?well known MC?s changed their vocal style/flow and production to conform to the Rap-A-Lot sound. One of the most slept on albums of the early 90?s - A must buy for the hip hop aficionado.

Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars Aggressive but controlled lyrics over southern-fried funk., December 24, 2001
By Conrad Risher (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
Mr. Scarface comes off hard on this album, bringing together the violent braggadocio of songs like, "Coming Agg" with the heartfelt soul-searching of "Now I Feel Ya", with "Dying Wth Your Boots On" a surprisingly insightful combination of the two. On "The Wall", Scarface once again examines his own psyche, contemplating his divergent mental states. Tracks like "Let Me Roll". provide fun interludes to the more serious ones, and, if "Mr Scarface: Part III The Final Chapter" is, as he claims, "Some old-school Scarface freestyling", Mr. Jordan appears ready to battle any of New York's finest, bringing together three tales into one mess of joyous, wit-filled fun. While certainly not for the young _or_ faint of heart, "The World Is Yours" is a classic album, arguably the strongest product to come out of Rap-A-Lot records.
P.S. One bonus that comes of purchasing this album on CD is the ability to skip the woefully misguided efforts that are "I Need A Favor" and "Strickly For The Funk Lovers". On tape, these _lengthy_ tracks just grate on the nerves.
