5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Compilation
I bought the CD due to the Seattle Pop Bands on board, but this has turned out to be one of my all-time favorite CD's. The Fastbacks & The Model Rockets have excellent contributions, and The Posies demonstrate just why in fact, the were probably the BEST power pop band of the early nineties. Check this out, as you know it will go out of print + you'll have missed a...

3.0 out of 5 stars An OK tribute to a great band
Tribute CDs are often a mixed bag, and this one's no exception. "World of the Zombies" is a powerpop tribute to one of the most talented but, until recently, most overlooked bands of the '60s. The idea, then, of popularizing their songs through 90s powerpop reinterpretations is a promising one.

Unfortunately, the product is merely "OK." The Posies are excellent as usual, and several other tracks are pleasant standouts, but others--including limp re-readings of "Girl Help Me" (one of my favorite Zombies songs!) and "She's Not There"--don't really go anywhere.

All in all, an OK purchase, but somewhat pointless now that the Zombies have been so...critically rehabilitated, perhaps? Whatever the case, make sure you listen before you buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Are you a rocker or a mod?, November 4, 1998
This review is from: The World of the Zombies (Audio CD)
If you're familiar to the now famous question posed to John Lennon on the Beatles arrival in America (A:"I'm a mocker"), then the hip, aloof attitude of the Brit-Invasion group the Zombies is not something I need to clue you in on. You're "with-it" part of the "in-crowd", and back in '65 everyone was tuned into the groups "Time of The Season". Fast forward to the modern day a-go-go now scene, the Zombies are remembered best as having a couple of minor hits in an overcrowded market of next-big things from the UK, but are preserved thanks to Hollywood's infinite use of "Time Of The Season" in almost every Vietnam-era film. Up in a corner of the NW, where the Zombies as well as the Kinks, the Turtles and Dave Clark Five were the bands from many of the "now" kids' childhood, the kids of today are "hep" to where the Zombies are at. Hence this heady compilation featuring Flop, British Columbia's Zumpano(who almost always sound like the zombies)Young Fresh Fellows, the Fastbacks, the Posies they're all here for the music, man. There's a lot of love in this room.
