The rapid advances in digital technology have meant that digitised content is now readily available to most people. However content owners and commercial stakeholders face a constant battle to protect their intellectual property and commercial rights. Jude Umeh outlines the issues behind this battle, current solutions to the problem and looks to a future beyond digital rights management. Content creators, law makers and businesses must learn to work together with end-users, in order to harness the fantastic opportunities presented in this book for a step change in global cultural evolution, and a stake in the evolving digital content economy. Aimed at stakeholders in digital content and rights management from: media and entertainment businesses, law & intellectual property protection, information technology & security, regulatory compliance, and consumers of digital content.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Umeh succinctly explains how the IT, business models, and standards combine and interact, and how the industry is now maturing to take account of such rapid change. He presents a superb example of how technology is developing to fulfil a business requirement , and how it can adapt and innovate to drive transformation and change in an entire industry. -- John Beaver IT Training 20080801 The challenge of getting and using informatiion is close to being solved. Unfortunately a new challenge has arisen: proving who owns what information, and who can modify original data - i.e. Digital Rights Management. It's a topic we all need to grasp and this book definitely makes a good starting point -- Andy Mullholland, Global Chief Technology Officer 20071001

5.0 out of 5 stars THE WORLD BEYOND DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT, July 16, 2008
This review is from: The World beyond Digital Rights Management (Paperback)
The World Beyond Digital Rights Management

This is a great piece of work about DRM and Digital Content by Jude Umeh. It is pretty detailed. The book is excellent for anyone that wants to understand anything about Digital Right Management and issues around Digital Content like illegal downloading and piracy. The diction and content provide solutions to many unanswered questions by some consumers concerned about the negative effect of piracy on the owners of such materials or content as well as the effectiveness of the existing standard.

I read this book out of curiosity about DRM and even though I am not a technologist or a media person, I was able to understand the issues discussed by the author especially in the early 4 chapters and the last chapter. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
