My son is into anything Cars, so we're always on the lookout for Cars-themed stuff. There are dozens of books available, but nearly all of them are simply variations on the story from the movie. Many of them even share the same artwork. This book presents several completely new stories from the pasts of most of the main characters. They're well-written and substantial, and the illustrations are excellent. It's a good book to read to pre-readers and will also appeal to older children who can read it on their own.

The CD included with some editions of this book (it might be exclusive to a certain brick & mortar retailer) doesn't really add much -- it's simply a recording of an actor reading the book, with no music or effects.

My 3 year old daughter loves the Cars movie and anything that goes along with it. This book has been a lot of fun at story time; she really likes to hear about what Lightning, Mac, Doc, Mater, Flo, Guido & Luigi did before they were in Radiator Springs.

my two-year-old loves this book. he calls for 'world cars' almost every day. the pictures are nice, the stories are fun, not too short or long either. i can see him reading this book later too.

This book is the best of the Cars books out there, hands down. With great artwork and imaginative backstories, it helps to really expand the world of Cars, not just re-hash the movie (as many of the books do). My son (3 1/2) loves finding out how the various cars got to Radiator Springs, and it is great to see him loving the drawings on the page and not just on a flickering screen. The stories themselves are filled with the humor that you find in the movie and the characters ring true -- for Cars fans this book will not disappoint.

My two year old grandson was going in for some minor surgery. I got this book to help entertain him. He loved it. We read it over and over ... and over ... and over.

We love the this book! The content is great; good stories, well told! However, the paper used in the construction is weak. (That's why 3 stars instead of 5). We're not terribly hard on books, but already my two little guys (2 and 5 years old) have torn out more than one page and all of the foldout pages have ripped at the fold. Surely the publisher knew it's target audience and should have known to use higher quality, more durable materials. We're disappointed that this book probably won't last through all of our children.

My three year old loves this book! It has all of the back stories for the main CARS characters. He sits and "reads" this all the time!

Book isn't bad. Makes up a whole bunch of background about the main cars in the first movie. But if you have someone in the house who loves the movie, they will like the book too.

My little 2 year old is obsessed with the Disney Cars movie so we were looking for more Cars related books and purchased this one. He loves it. Fortunately it's not quite as simplistic as many of the other Cars books on the market. Instead it gives a surprising amount of background on the various background characters in the movie. I think there's enough content here that he won't lose interest nearly as quickly as he does some of the more "childish" Cars books on the market.

This book was not only inexpensive, but in pristine condition. My nephew is totally into anything "CARS" and he loved the book. The stories were very entertaining.
