I was skeptical when I first saw the price. But reading reviews in some magazines made me want to buy it to see just how great it was. When I opened the box I was shocked at how thick this book is. It is about 4 inches tall at least. And full of very cool rifles that I have never heard of before. I thought I was pretty knowledgeable when it comes to assault rifles but I realized that I know nothing of what is out there in the world. The authors did an amazing job of documenting and photographing hundreds upon hundreds of rifles that I would have never known about if it was not for this book.
If you are an assault rifle enthusiast this is the holy grail of books to buy for yourself. It is priceless! My wife is so tired of me telling her about this gun and that gun and all the things I am learning from this book.
I hope this helps anyone considering buying this to go for it. You will not be sorry. I would pay 3x the amount if I knew how good it was. I paid about $60 for mine through amazon and no buyers remorse here. I waited for the free shipping option also which probably saved me money considering the size and weight of this book.

If you are a gun nut or a military buff this book is for you! It is very comprehensive and in depth with lots of firearms not found in most books on the subject. Lots of pics and info on experimental and prototype firearms from around the world. It sits on my shelf right next to "The World's Submachine Guns" another great book. The only negative thing i would have to say is to bad its not in color! If you buy one book about assault rifles this should be the one.

This book is imposing at over 1200 pages. It has very detailed sections on all Russian, American and German assault rifles. Other countries are given less space, mostly deservedly so. Some of the information can be found in other books, but this puts it all in one place. You will read things in this book that you didn't know before no matter what you're interest level. Includes history of the development and not just the specifications which is what makes it really interesting.

This is a really superb book and covers the topic exhaustively. The book stays tightly on topic and does not discuss semi-automatic-only small arms except in passing. Each weapon is discussed individually, and weapon families are presented as a unit. Take-down, theory of operation, and history of development are covered for all weapons. Field use notes are presented for successful weapons.

The book is arranged alphabetically by country. Information is not duplicated (for example, references to the FN FAL refer the reader to the correct section in Belgium). Additional major sections discuss ammunition development and theory. The book's production quality is excellent. The book is extensively illustrated with numerous close-up images and numerous full-weapon images of common configurations of major weapons. Photographs are in black and white. The writing is consistent and engaging and surprisingly enjoyable for this type of reference work. Typographical errors are present but uncommon. I highly recommend this major and engaging reference work on the world's assault rifles.

A splendid tome on a complex subject. Very well organized and presented and the photographic coverage is fantastic!!! A must have for the military buff or the 'Gun Guy'. The authors are to be comended on a job very well done.

It's not cheap, but you get so much incredible content that it's a great value nonetheless. The breadth and depth of this book is fantastic. Highly recommended to anyone interested in the field of small arms, or military history.

This book is literally the heaviest reading I have ever experienced. At about 15 pounds and almost 1200 pages it is very thorough and comprehensive, yet remains fairly readable. It is loaded with pictures and is the last word on assault rifles. Well done!

I purchased this book as a result of reading a book review in The American Rifleman. It is the most comprehensive reference work of assault
firearms I have ever seen. It is well organized, and it contains numerous photographs and drawings. It also costs much less money buying it
from Amazon.com than it does when purchased from the publisher. Any firearms collector who has an interest in military firearms will enjoy
owning and using this book.
