This album is a great listen all the way through. Dave Jenkins does a great job with vocals on "Love Will Find A Way", "Don't Want To Live Without It", and "I Go To Rio". This is one of those rare cds that you can listen to from start to finish without pressing a button to skip a song. The lyrics may not be the deepest, but it's a good ride on the ship Pablo Cruise.

The Pablo Peak,
By
This review is from: Worlds Away (Audio CD)
It's always nice to hear a good band when they hit their peak. For Pablo Cruise, this was it. Several other LPs, before and since, had a few nice moments. "Worlds Away," however, is worlds above their other efforts. The theme of Pablo was always island/beach related, and their music found its niche within the pop/rock genre. They were able to take the Beach Boys motif into a late '70s/early '80s sensibility, much like Jimmy Buffett had done a few years earlier. There is a blend of upbeat happy sounds ("Worlds Away," "Love Will Find a Way," "Don't Want to Live Without It," "I Go to Rio"), more intense riffs ("Runnin'"), and pleasant mellow sounds ("Always Be Together," "Sailing to Paradise"). The end result is a timeless sound. Much of the music from that era was disco-themed or punkish, but Pablo rose above trendiness and created something quite special that sounds as fresh and make-you-smile as anything ever made. Well worth holding a slot in your CD changer on a regular basis.

Very few remember this great band-how unjust!Pablo Cruise were in the tradition of Santana,Eagles,Steely Dan,and in terms of musicianship they were equal to any of the above.Listen to this album with jazzy undertones and rediscover an unfairly forgotten band. They were masters of rythm and melody and,far from being dated, this music sounds as fresh today as it did in the late seventies.

I'm about to replace a burned out 22 year old cassette with a new CD of "Worlds Away" just so I can hear that telephone ring again: "hello?" and the underwater voice telling Bill he won't be able to make it into work today 'cause he's at the bottom of the pool! (intro to "I Go To Rio" This is THE cassette we had on when we were cruisin' in 78!

Pablo's Finest !,

I love the music style of Pablo Cruise and I feel they were at their best on this album. The music is crisp and clean with great musicianship. Dave Jenkins is very underrated guitar player who plays great guitar solos in the style of Santana and the early Doobie Brothers. Cory Lerios keyboard playing is very impressive and Bruce Day's bass playing is always deep and thumping. The mix of keyboards and guitar produces a beautiful sound throughout the album. There isn't a bad song on this CD. WORLDS AWAY and RUNNIN are my favorite tracks along with FAMILY MAN and DON'T WANNA LIVE WITHOUT IT. A classic late 70's album that will make you feel like your walking along a beach with a cool breeze blowing on you.

Worlds Away brings out the west coast sound of 1978!,

This is definately Pablo Cruises landmark album. Each song on the album holds it own, such as the title cut. The most familiar and popular song, "Love Will Find A Way", still sounds as fresh and upbeat as it did in the summer of '78 when the single peaked at number 6. This is a keeper for anyone interested in good time 70's music.

This is one of my favorite albums. Top 5. Without a dought there best album. 'Family Man' & 'Runnin' were the two best songs. and they were not even hits. Every song on the album from 'Worlds Away' to 'Sailing to Paradise' are classic California & Hawaii Music in the mid to late 70's. Growing up in Hawaii there music along with KALAPANA's just hit the spot. Thank you.

Some of the Hottest Pop Music Ever,
By A Customer
This review is from: Worlds Away (Audio CD)
I was a major Pablo Cruise fan back when Worlds Away came out in 1978. I recently bought the album again on CD, and it brought back a flood of memories, including the time I saw the group in concert in the fall of 1978. Back then, there weren't many rock groups that sounded as good live as they did in their recordings, but Pablo Cruise was definitely one of them. The overall level of musicianship in the group was a quantum leap beyond most bands of their era. Cory Lerios was a stellar piano player, and David Jenkins, though the timbre of his voice grated somewhat, was a great singer nonetheless. My favorite cut on this album when it came out was "Love Will Find a Way," but now my favorite is "You're Out to Lose," an extremely funky, even jazzy, tune. (OK, so the use of "Syndrums" dates the entire album precisely to 1978--I can overlook it.) I left the country for most of 1979 and 1980, and it was disappointing to find upon returning that the Cruise had fallen out of sight in the interim. |
