4.0 out of 5 stars Love to flush, but some stink issues!
I *adore* this litter. I started my kitten on it from day 1, so there were no adjustment issues, and I can't comment on that. It clumps exceedingly well, and it is SO nice to be able to flush the cat nasties. I've found that neither the regular nor the extra strength even remotely "cover up" any smells, as there's no perfumey nature to WBCL, but I've never smelled a urine...

I was excited when I bought this litter since my cat has sensitive skin, and this litter works really well for her. I *adore* this litter. I started my kitten on it from day 1, so there were no adjustment issues, and I can't comment on that. It clumps exceedingly well, and it is SO nice to be able to flush the cat nasties. I've found that neither the regular nor the extra strength even remotely "cover up" any smells, as there's no perfumey nature to WBCL, but I've never smelled a urine odor from the box. I do choose to add some sprinklable odor control stuff, of some natural brand I can't remember, because the solid waste of new kitten is just too smelly. (Addendum: it's Nil O Litter, and it has the exact same texture as WBCL and is also made of corn cob bits.)

There's a little bit of tracking, but nothing a small mat or hand vacuum won't take care of. Do watch out if you have any moisture near your box (like if you keep it in the bathroom where the floor might get wet) -- I've noticed that if my cat encounters WBCL with wet paws, I find pale footprints that dry to a fine dust alllll over the place near his box. That must be the clumpable stuff at work. Also, don't go picking up the cat if you're wearing dark clothes just after a litter box visit! I've finally figured out where all that pale dust on my work clothes has been coming from.... Importantly for me, I do NOT find that this litter kicks up much airborne dust, unlike at least one other user's experience noted here. I am very sensitive to the nasty dust that other litters can kick up with the slightest disturbance, and WBCL doesn't bother me at all that way.

Minor dust and stink issues aside, I by far prefer WBCL to other, clay-based, flushable litters I've tried, which fill the air with choking fine clay dust with questionable lung consequences. At least the dust of WBCL doesn't seem to hang in the air.

WBCL is expensive, although with cagey use of discount codes, I've been able to get it for just under a dollar a pound even after shipping.

Addendum: This litter works very well with the Litter Robot, my new best friend!

I had been using traditional silica-based scoopable cat litter for years despite some reservations about its potential harmful effects on my and my cats' lungs. I just assumed that the alternatives would be far less convenient. But I actually prefer this product both in terms of quality, convenience, and environmental concerns. It has a pleasant and very mild odor and just "feels" more benign -- the thought of breathing or even ingesting it doesn't trouble me. It took my cats a day or so to get used to it, but I breathe easier (literally and figuratively) knowing that it is nontoxic and environmentally friendly. Although it doesn't clump quite as firmly, it is lighter hence easier to scoop, and doesn't seem to track quite as much. Great stuff!

I was excited when I bought this litter since my cat has sensitive skin, and this litter works really well for her. I also liked the idea my cat is not exposed to the heavy scents and who-knows-what chemicals in the clay-based litters. Unfortunately, my cat wasn't the only one who liked it -- the litter attracted ants.

By the fourth week, we noticed a small pile of litter by the garage door, maybe 6 feet from the litter box. Small ants were everywhere and they were successfully moving the litter, grain by grain, to a "staging area" where other ants were dragging the little bits into a gap between the floor and the wall. We immediately had to go back to the old litter and move the litter box out of area while we pitched battle with our insect invaders. Once the litter was gone, we had no trouble getting rid of the ants, but it will be a while before I experiment with a food-based litter again.

I live in the suburbs of Chicago, so ants are not uncommon, but I've never had them in this house before the litter incident, and I've never had them since. There wasn't one sign of trouble for weeks, but the moment the first ant found that giant food box, we were overrun within a few hours.

If you have a way to keep all of the litter where it belongs, inside the box, and you don't have any potential ant threats, I'd say buy this litter with no hesitation. If you start to see little black new pets everywhere, you'll just have to settle for the nasty clay stuff.

This product is aptly named "World's Best Cat Litter". I've been using it for my cats for about six months. It's clean and dust free, so the cats don't cough, and the air in the house stays clear. The litter, which is made from corn, clumps well and can be safely flushed down the toilet. It's not necessary to change the complete litter box as often as with clay based litter. And . . . with the left over you can make cornbread! Just kidding.

Having two cats in a small house with 5 people, can make a stinky litter box a complete hassel! WBCL is the only product that I have ever found that not only reduces the amonia smell, but eliminates it completely! It is a natural corn product and won't hurt your felines internal systems at all if it is injested while cleaning, unlike clay based prodcuts. WBCL scoops better than any other scoopable litter out there, and the large bags last much longer than standard scoopable litters. Try a small bag for yourself...you won't be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly the Best, December 15, 2005
This review is from: World's Best Cat Litter 34-lb bag (Misc.)
I've been using WBCL for a couple years now. I was initially concerned mostly with the health aspects for my cats, but it has turned out to be just as good for me.

For the Cats:
- Clay litters are dusty and reek of perfume. And if *I* think it's bad, I can't imagine their sensitive noses being 8 inches from the stuff.
- While I don't think corn is a good food for my cats (from cleaning their paws), it's at least better than clay.

For me:
- There is almost no dust with this litter. Amazingly little. I used to have to avert my face or cover it with my shirt while scooping. Added to the lack of perfume here, I can now scoop with no problems. And even more amazing, there's still no smell. Unless I've let the boxes go for too long (especially in summer), I don't smell anything. When you first pour it into the box it looks and smells like Grape Nuts cereal.
- It clumps nicely. No, it doesn't form those perfect solid rocks that clumping clay does, so you have to be more careful about them breaking up, but it does weigh a lot less. I don't feel like I'm doing as much heavy work.
- Less work. Not only is scooping easier, but I don't have to dump the pans out completely except for every couple of months. This sounds disgusting until you use the stuff. It's so good at what it does that you really need only scoop and add more once a week. The one thing that does get annoying once it's older is that the larger grains tend to go before the small ones. After a while, you're dealing with smaller particles that are more likely to get tracked around the house. When i start seeing dusty cat prints on the chairs, I know it's time to dump.

A note on cost. The stuff isn't cheap, but weighed against all its great qualities, I am happy (not just willing) to pay the price. And the volume is very good for the weight, as well. I've bought a 40lb bag of clumping clay (I bought some Cat Attract for a cat with some litterbox issues--it does work, btw) that lasted only half as long as the 34 lb bag of WBCL.

One last comment for the reviewer below whose cat didn't like it: cats are notorious for being picky. They don't deal with change well and have to be eased into anything new, whether it be litter or food or a new house. If your cat doesn't take to it right away, mix it with your old litter, gradually increasing the ratio, until your cat is fine with it. It will be worth the trouble.

5.0 out of 5 stars Godsend for an automated box, October 4, 2005
By
This review is from: World's Best Cat Litter 34-lb bag (Misc.)
Since I want the best for my kitties, and also because I am a bit on the lazy side, I have a littermaid automated litter box. I don't mind spending money on a good product, and after trying maybe 8 different kinds I was finding that I had the best results with the Ever Clean premium litter, or Arm & Hammer in a pinch. However, these clay litters would still cause havoc with our box from time to time because the cats would go to the bathroom and bury in a fashion that would make the rake get stuck. This had been getting more and more of a problem as the littermaid box has been getting older. So, nearing my wits end, I start investigating other litters, and came across World's Best.

My search is over. This litter breathed new life into the littermaid box. Since changing over a couple of months ago, the box has not gotten stuck once. This was happening every other day with the previous litter. World's Best has more volume for it's mass, and doesn't quite form the mud that clay litter can. So, this makes it easy on the motor of an automated box. It still clumps very well for not being clay. If you have an automatic box and have been having problems with clay litter, give this a try and it won't disappoint!

Now of course, there are drawbacks. In my opinion, the return of flawless operation of the littermaid heavily outweighed all of these, and fully justified the 5 stars.

1. The smell will be stronger than with clay litters. Clay litters typically have additives that help control odor. It's not overwhelming, but it is stronger. It will also smell different.

2. Since the litter weighs less, more unused litter gets pushed into the tray for automatic machines. This is simply a cost issue, and if you're spending $100+ on a litter box, is a moot point in my opinion.

3. Clay litter seems to prevent gnats. Nearing changing time I have noticed on occasion a couple of gnats in the tray. This never happened with clay litters, and happened to an insane degree with littermaid's brand of litter which was wood based. Since it's only a couple every now and then, it didn't detract enough to ding it's star rating from me. These bugs did make me switch immediately from the littermaid brand when I tried that, so I'm not exactly tolerant of them normally heh.

For those of you that can't bring themselves to spend a wad of cash on an automatic box, Worlds Best has the following benefits:

1. It's flushable, so, no worries about a litter trash can stinking to high heaven.

2. No worries of dust harming kitty lungs

The drawbacks to it for scoop wielders:

1. Slightly less effective than clay litter that costs the same or less

2. Initial smell is stronger, however, absense of litter trash can may offset this

I can't recommend this enough for the automatic boxes, and is a good choice for regular boxes for the health benefits. However, if you have a regular box, I would suggest also investigating other non-clay litters to compare to and find what's best.

Is not the worlds best cat litter. Does not last the length of time they claim it too. It does control urine odor but stinks like wet corn meal. They claim it could be eaten, although they don't recommend it, my cat was eating it and vomiting it up. I wonder if they use corn that was contaimanted with a fungus that they could not use for human or animal food. The plus side was its light weight, "good for a person with a bad back", easy to scoop " no digging to get that clumping litter removed", and does seem to be dust free. May be agreeable for some one with only one or two cats. I would not recommended for the multi cat house hold.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best cat litter I've used..., January 3, 2007

I am so glad I tried this litter despite the few negative reviews I saw... It clumps well and does not stick to the pan even after it gets wet. It is simple and convenient to clean the litter box since the litter can be flushed down the toilet (we keep our litter boxes next to the toilet to facilitate regular cleaning). Perhaps not the best odor control, but comparable to most litter. I have two cats who switched to the new litter without problem. I would recommend it, no question.

5.0 out of 5 stars This litter is so MUCH better for your furry kids!!!!!, January 25, 2007
This review is from: World's Best Cat Litter 34-lb bag (Misc.)
The only complaint I have is that it stinks when my kitties urinate. Not sure what really smells (litter or urine) but the corn litter is very strong in odor. On a positive note, my kitties are no longer inhaling the dust from their old clay litter. SOOOOO much better for kitty cats.
