is the best litter I know of,
By
This review is from: World's Best 00098 Cat Litter, Clumping Formula, 17 Pounds (Packaging Varies) (Misc.)
Unlike the other reviewers, my cats (three of them) like it just fine and I love the fact that I get *no* litter box smell --- which includes none of the litter-deoderant smell you get with most sand or clay litters. I guess it depends on your cat...It clumps well. It is bio-degradable. The litter doesn't track much, though it gives off a powder (corn starch I expect) that does track --- but that is still preferable to tracking sand, clay, or sawdust. I've tried practically everything, and this is the best litter I've found so far.

We came across this litter a while ago and have not bought any other brand or type since. Even though it is expensive, we think it is worth the price. For me, the secret is in the clumping - better than with any other product I have tried over the almost 25 years that I have had cats. It remains a clump and does not fall apart like so many other litter brands do if you remove it too soon or too late. It does not matter whether it is fresh pee or you are cleaning the litter box hours "after the deed" - the litter forms a firm clump and even shaking it on the scoop in order to get excess litter to fall back into the pan keeps the clump intact. Very neat and very economical, too, because no product is wasted. Odor control is very satisfactory. We have three cats and do not notice any bad smells. We think, in fact, this litter performs better than other brands in this department. No obnoxious artificial scenting needed. Lastly, I prefer the color and consistency of this litter to the regular greyish litter. The particles are smaller, grainier, kind of like coarse sand, and although it sounds weird I must say that cleaning the litter box is not as appalling when the color is sand-like. The old grey stuff always put me off more...:-) Although the price seems high, I feel that this is a great natural product with a lot of real benefits (like it lasting quite long) and would recommend it to anyone with cats.

My cat likes it, and I LOVE it!,

This is wonderful stuff for us. We MUST have a cat litter that is safe for dogs to eat, since regardless of what we do, our dogs find a way to eat some of it. At the same time, clumping litter is so much more convenient. So that leaves this corn litter and the wheat kind. The wheat-based brand gives off LOTS of dust, about 50 times the dust that this one does. Not exagerating. Our cat thought nothing of the change to this one and uses it just fine. It does control the odor far better than other varieties (I have been foster mom to 50 cats over the years, and I have tried every litter including clay, pine, newspaper, and wheat). This one is the best by far. That said, if your cat will not use it, it is worthless to you! So you may want to try the small bag first.

This was actually a disappointment. My cat tracked this stuff all over the house. It stuck to his feet much worse than ordinary cat litter. Also it does not 'clump.' I will not be purchasing this litter ever again! They have never used ordinary cat litter if they think this is the World's Best!

I am so happy with this cat litter.... I have tried absolutely everything in my quest to find a silica free cat litter that isn't loaded with perfumes and that works well. I think that World's Best delivers on their promises. It clumps beautifully, is flushable, is not harmful to breathe, and is not harmful to my cats when they clean themselves. A lot of people complain that this has absolutely NO odor control. I don't agree, but you MUST clean your litter box AT LEAST once a day. The heavily perfumed clay litters may be more forgiving with regard to daily cleanings, but really....do you want your cats to scratch around in a box filled with poop and urine for days on end?? They will track that all over your house! People also complain about the price, but guess what? That cheap clay litter throws off silica dust that YOU AND YOUR CATS breathe in. Look up "silicosis" and then rethink using clay litters. I've also tried pine litter and that stuff tracks all over the house and is a royal pain to clean up...and talk about no odor control. Same problem with newspaper litter: stinky. Arm and Hammer has a "natural" pine litter that I recently tried and it was so strongly perfumed, it smelled like someone dumped a bottle of Pine-Sol into the litter box....that was the only time my cats ever refused to use their box due to a litter change and the couple of times they did urinate into the Arm and Hammer pine litter it REEKED of ammonia. It was awful. I know better now...I won't be changing brands again any time soon.So now I have been using World's Best for almost a year and I feel like it has great odor control as long as I clean it daily. It has been my experience that once the litter gets stinky despite vigilant scooping, it is time to change it out for completely fresh litter. Great product, but people seriously need to develop better scooping habits. It is awful that you would judge the effectiveness of a litter based on how lazy it allows you to be. I feel sorry for the cats that have to live with people like that.

World's WORST Cat Litter,
By kmb (Chicago) - See all my reviews
This review is from: World's Best 00098 Cat Litter, Clumping Formula (Misc.)
My 2 year old long-hair neutered tabby is very peculiar about his cat litter, and if he doesn't like it, he lets me know by peeing on the couch. Yes, I've taken him to the vet to have him checked for an infection and I've tried putting him on kitty prozac, but it seems to be that he just doesn't like most litters. I started using Cat Attract and quit having problems with him, but one day, I ran out of litter and had to go to Petco to get more. I had never been to this Petco, so I didn't realize that they didn't carry Cat Attract, so I got this "World's Best" cat litter instead, hoping that my cat would like it. Not only did he hate it, I did too. It didn't cover up odors AT ALL and when I bent down close to it to clean out the box, the litter smelled like vomit. It's the only time I've ever gagged while cleaning the box. I would NEVER buy this cat litter again. It clumped just fine, but my boyfriend and I could smell the litter box all over the house even after I cleaned it, and I honestly only had the litter in the box for 2 days before I couldn't take it anymore and threw it all out. What a waste of money! I ended up going out and buying a cheap clay litter from the grocery store and my cat liked that better! But honestly, check out Cat Attract. It's so much better than this cat litter.

I've been using this litter for 4 years now and it's been great. I used Arm & Hammer clumping clay litter for 7 years before that and it worked fine, but I became concerned at the way my fastidious cat cleaned herself after using the litter pan--was she ingesting all those little bits of clay that got stuck in between her paws? And what happens to the wet clay bits when they go down her throat? So I looked for something safer for her health.I tried several other types of litter, including pine litter and silica. My cat did not like those litters, which she expressed by leaving her poop outside the litter pan. Then I tried the Word's Best litter, which was a hit. I'm much less worried about the way she grooms corn bits from her paws, since they're edible. In general, the pros are: --edible corn is safer for my cat than chemical-laden clay --lighter and softer than clumping clay litter --clumps well (though you need to wait 5-10 minutes for wet waste to clump before scooping it) --flushable (which helps a lot with odor control of the brown stuff) and the drawbacks are: --true, odor control is not as good as with the heavily chemical-laden clay litter. Feeding your cat a good quality food and cleaning the litter pan frequently helps, but I'd rather deal with a few minutes of unpleasant odor than have my cat ingest bits of clay. --tracking. I have a rug outside the bathroom that collects a lot of the corn bits, but my cat still tracks corn dust to other parts of the house. This is actually easier to clean up than bits of clay, so I don't mind. I also think it's cute, since I can see where my cat has been sitting when I'm away from home. The dust level seems to be about the same as with clumping clay litter, so it shouldn't make a difference in how much dust my cat and I breathe in. This 7-pound bag really does last a month (though if you're changing litters, you need to allow for the base amount required anytime you change litters). It's lighter than clumping clay litter so it's not fair to compare cost by pound--you need to look at how long the litter lasts. I buy fewer bags of this litter per year, so it's really not more expensive than clay litters over the long run. In the end, of course, which litter you use will depend on your cat. When I once bought a bag of non-clumping litter by mistake, my cat sat in the litter pan and studiously threw it out of the pan. She also complained when I once ran low on litter and bought the litter available at the nearest drugstore. I don't know if this litter is the "world's best", but I can offer the endorsement of my finicky cat. I'm starting to get tired of my current supplier's 3-5 business-day wait before they even ship out the order, so I'm pleased to see that Amazon is offering this directly. Even with shipping costs included, I'll be glad to order it from here. (That's a really old picture, though--the current bag is yellow and blue.)

What a dissapointment... seriously!,

I luckily got this product from a pet supply distributor I deal with to try for free. I am in the pet care industry and have tried pretty much every type of litter out there. I usually use my personal cats as test-dummies for new products and had high but reasonable hopes for World's Best Scoopable Multi-Cat Litter... So I do a full litter box clean out, scrub the box and add several inches of litter to the box; the smell was 'off' to begin with but I figured I'd give it a try. Five hours later my husband comes home, uses the bathroom and tells me he thinks I need to clean the cat box... he's in disbelief when I tell him I just put brand new litter in the box. The litter lasted less than a week in my house, one of my three cats started urinating and defecating on the bathroom floor the first night the litter was in use and I finally couldn't stand dealing with it anymore, cleaning up accidents & the smell throughout my house, of this nasty litter.I scoop the litter box daily, I absolutely loved the clumping of this litter, it was pretty much dust-free, and the product seemed to last & last unlike regular clay litters that must be replenished often... Why oh Why must it smell so horrible? My cats will use ANY box with ANY litter as long as it is clean, BUT WBCL is an absolute waste when your cat won't even use it!

False Advertising,

This review is from: World's Best 00098 Cat Litter, Clumping Formula (Misc.)
I too wanted my cats to have silica dust free litter, so I switched to this brand. While it may be silica dust free it is NOT dust free. It is full of corn dust, and I recently found out from a veterinarian that corn is an allergen that can cause chronic urinary tract/bladder inflammation. Guess what? My cat has chronic UTI with no known source... Also this litter does not last the amount of time that they claim. My cats track this dust all over the house and on our clothes if we are holding them(gross!)and it has no odor control. One of my cats eats some of it and then throws it up. After several years of using this I am at the end of my rope. Not only is this NOT the Worlds Best Cat Litter, if your cat is allergic to corn it may be harming them, and it is expensive. I recently switched over to Dr. Elsey's cat litter. I am very happy with it. It clumps well, no dust, some odor control, and far cheaper.

Good Litter...but not the Greatest,
By stephanie nicotra smith (Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: World's Best 00089 Cat Litter, Clumping Formula, 7 Pounds (Packaging Varies) (Misc.)
This is a good litter, but it is not the greatest.Pros: It clumps like a dream for both urine and solids, the clumps don't break apart when you sift, and it is super easy to scoop the box clean. It does track a little, but not nearly as much as clay based litters. I use the Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box, and with this litter, only a small amount got on the floor. So small that the tracked litter never made it more than a foot away from the box. There was absolutely no dust and my cat adjusted right away to the change in litter with no accidents (to be fair she is not yet a year old). Cons: It smells. The smell is hard to describe, not like chemicals or fake perfume (like clay litters), more of a barn smell. At first it wasn't that bad and it only bothered me when I was cleaning the box, but it just got worse. There are no perfumes in the litter, and even though I never smelled cat urine, there was no odor control for her poop. So not only does the litter itself smell bad, but the added bonus of bad smelling cat poop just intensified the problem. It wasn't so bad that you could smell it all over the house, but you could definitely smell it when you walked by the room. By the end of the month, I was cleaning the box 2 times a day to keep the smell down AND I was spraying air freshener. Conclusion: If you live in a house with the box in the basement, garage, or out of the way from common areas, I think this litter is amazing! It does an amazing job of keeping the litter where it belongs...in the box! But if your litter box is anywhere near where you regularly live, eat, or sniff, I do not recommended this litter. In the end, my husband could not stand the smell and we ended up changing litters. It is disappointing, because other than the smell issue, this was the best litter that I have ever used. I hope that they can come up with a solution for better odor control. |
