Product Description

We've tried almost every different oil filter wrench configuration available; adjustable-band models are a good idea but require side clearance. Sized 'cup' wrenches are effective but expensive and fit just one size filter. We were hopeful but skeptical when we found this wrench. We put it to the test on four different vehicles, each with unique and challenging filter placements (obviously designed by engineers who don't change their own oil!) One required a LONG reach through a fender-wall flap and another in an unbelievably cramped compact import. The filters ranged in size from 2-5/8" to 3-1/2" and at least one had been WAY over-tightened. This amazing wrench adapted flawlessly to each one--we removed and replaced filters in record time and didn't swear once. Solid hardened-steel construction and components with corrosion-resistant black-oxide finish.

Customer Questions & Answers

The jaws won't grip the filter tightly and they simply slip around.

Had I persisted with the Worlds best universal wrench - I would have had to have the car towed to a garage to get the filter changed!
Warren Coolidge
Great for tight spaces where a wrap around band oil filter wrench won't fit.

The World's best oil filter wrench worked ok. I also have a Lisle Filter Wrench and like it better because it is spring loaded. The Lisle's grips the filter and does not tend to fall off the filter when applying the tool to the filter and also ratchets easier without falling off. The "World best" has a wider range than the Lisle whereas you would need two oil filter wrenches. The World's best works in two directions vs. the Lisle only will loosen the filter. My oil filter has a rounded end causing the "World best" wrench to only have little contact with the end of the jaws making it hard to apply and use. The World's best is made in Taiwan vs. the Lisle is made in The U.S.A.

The exhaust manifold on the current 2.5 wraps around the oil filter, making it impossible to twist off the filter from the side. A cap-type plastic wrench will just slip if the filter is on too tight. This is the tool for the job. (Hint: Wrap a plastic bag around the filter to contain some of the oil that will otherwise drip down your arm to the elbow when you finally spin it off.)

Anybody who has worked on a engine knows that they need a oil filter wrench if they want to remove the oil filter off of the engine. I am sure we have all seen those standard oil filter wrenches where you slip them onto the oil filter and pull that lever which tightens it against the filter.

Thats all well and great if your oil wrench is the proper sise for the filter you are trying to remove cause if its not, your out of luck there buddy. I have one of those big rig style oil wrenches and its too big to fit onto 2 inch oil filters and because of that lever, you can't get them up into tight spaces to work them.

So I went looking for an oil filter wrench which would work great for small filters, hence, small engine work. Thats when I found the 3-Jaw universal wrench being sold at Amazon.com. I was a bit worried when I bought this because I saw how small it was in the Amazon image, thought it might not be strong enough.

Oh how I was wrong, first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how heavy it was, deffinetly meant for the most tightest of filters. There was a guy at Amazon who said that he went to a hardware outlet to purchase a adaptor because he did not have a 1/2 drive rachet. Oh how I feel bad for him, he waisted his time, essentally he bought an adaptor to adapt from the adaptor.

Hence it came with an adaptor and so if he just pulled the adaptor out, he would have noticed it has a built in 3/8 drive for rachets as well. Oops :(

The jaw is fully adjustable from 2 and 1/2 inches all the way up to 4 inches so thats why its universal. All you have to do is put the jaws onto an oil filter, attach your rachet/socket wrench and begin loosening the filter.

The wrench is well constructed and believe it would work well in most situations, unfortunately I bought it with the intent of using it to change the oil on my Harley Ultra Classic. It does not provide the clearance needed to remove the oil filter on this bike.

It's well built and inexpensive. It does the job well. I think the inventor was very considerate in a way that he included an adapter nut, giving you an option to use either a torque wrench or a spanner.

Plan and simply I love this oil filter wrench. I have a 1993 Caviler, and a 1997 Dodge Caravan. This wrench makes it 10x easier to change my oil. I change my oil every 3,000 miles. Normally over an hour project is cut down to about a 45 min. Especially on my Caviler the location of the filter makes it impossible for a band wrench to get in there. I have rated this item with 5 stars when it should have 6+ stars!

I farm and the filters on my tractors range from very small to over five inches across. I was looking for a filter wrench that would take care of all of them. This wrench not only fits them all, but I've even used it to unscrew the dipstick when it was on too tight. It works great!

Good product but it will not work for small oil filters. Otherwise very helpful on making things effortless when changing your oil. Would recommend tool to friends.
