Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Harry Miller (May 1923 - October 1998) was a journalist, writer, photographer and naturalist who lived most of his life in Madras, India. He was a popularizer of wildlife, nature and science, with numerous articles in local newspapers including The Hindu and The Indian Express. Born as Harry Colin Miller in Swansea, Wales, he came from a poor Welsh family. He was a self-made man, who counted among his close friends the Dalai Lama, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, and Queen Frederika of Greece. He was married to an Indian from an illustrious Tamil Brahmin family, Revati Parthasarathy. He lived and worked in India for about forty years for the Indian Express and also wrote for the National Geographic, and he was also a photographer. He had two children Nisha and Robin. Robin died in 1991. Nisha lives in Chennai and has one daughter Tara Top-Teagarden.

Herbert George Wells (21 September 1866 - 13 August 1946) was an English author, now best known for his work in the science fiction genre. He was also a prolific writer in many other genres, including contemporary novels, history, politics and social commentary, even writing text books. Together with Jules Verne and Hugo Gernsback, Wells has been referred to as "The Father of Science Fiction".

Wells was an outspoken socialist and sympathetic to pacifist views, although he supported the First World War once it was under way, and his later works became increasingly political and didactic. His middle-period novels (1900-1920) were less science-fictional; they covered lower-middle class life (The History of Mr Polly) and the "New Woman" and the Suffragettes (Ann Veronica).

This review is from: The War of the Worlds, Classics Illustrated 50th Anniversary HC (Hardcover)
I took a chance on ordering what I thought might be a soft cover version of this old Classics Illustrated version of War of the Worlds and waited for delivery. To my surprise when it arrived I found instead a hardbound copy! I showed it to my friends who were impressed. This has started my quest to add to my collection of old Classics Illustrated. Oveall I was really happy with my purchase.
