Biography

There aren't many rock bands on this planet that wouldn't like to be regarded as unique. Of course, in these times of nostalgia and endlessly recycled ideas, very few actually deserve that description. Finland's Apocalyptica deserve it more than most. Utterly original in every respect, these classically-trained merchants of genre-shattering metal, sound quite unlike anything or anyone else in… Read more in Amazon's Apocalyptica Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great composition by these Finnish Cello Masters, December 3, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Worlds Collide (Audio CD)
Apocalyptica have delived another metal masterpiece with the Album Worlds Collide. There are several versions available including the 11 track standard, 11 track with bonus dvd (see european DVD description), the extra track japan with bonus tracks Lies, Ural, and Dreamer, and Japanese bonus track version with bonus japanese DVD with I'm not jesus, making of I'm not jesus, interview, japanese interview, live videos of Master of Puppets and Betrayal, and photo gallery. There is also the European deluxe edition with 2 bonus tracks of Ural and Dreamer, and the DVD minus the live videos and the japanese interview, and a 13 track european version with no dvd. Any version you get will be excellent. I got the European DVD version, and am very pleased.

From start to finish, this album has the tempo changes and the intensity that we have come to expect from the original compositions by this band, and also has the feature of a cover tune of the german version Heros by David Bowie sang by Rammmstein's lead singer. Also featured are tracks with Three days grace lead singer, Corey Taylor of Stonesour/Slipknot, and Christina Scabia of Lacuna Coil. These vocal tracks are all decent, but I'm still more interested in the music behind them. However, again, apocalyptica makes it work well. Plus, since the addition of drumming from the album reflections forward, Dave Lombardo of Slayer continues to guest on a few of the tracks. A nice booming addition to this already blistering line up. Tracks to play loud are "I'm not Jesus", "I Don't Care", and "Worlds Collide". Again, very good album for first timers to get, and a must for fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, but loses a star because of certain vocals, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Worlds Collide (Audio CD)
I love this cd, Apocalyptica has come a long way. I am extremely disappointed in the guest vocal tracks, even though I am a fan of 3 of the 4 vocalists.

The vocal tracks really kill the flow for me and they bring down Apocalyptica's potential. The vocal tracks are less dynamic and the lyrics are either hit or miss, they are a miss with me. Cristina Scabbia has a beautiful voice and I was thrilled to see that she contributed, but the song is too simple and the lyrics aren't very poetic. I couldn't even post the lyrics that bug me here for a reason. When I thought of the combination I had hoped for something much better. The only vocal track that seems to work for me is "Helden" featuring Till Lindemann and it's just a cover of "Heroes" by the Wallflowers.

The album is still great, I still gave it 4 stars for a reason. It's absolutely beautiful metal, I just wish there was more Apocalyptica and less awkward guest vocal tracks that seem to hold them down creatively.
