5.0 out of 5 stars Another great composition by these Finnish Cello Masters
Apocalyptica have delived another metal masterpiece with the Album Worlds Collide. 3.0 out of 5 stars Starting to show signs of wear...
I've been a fan of the Finnish Metal-cellists since "Plays Metallica". Who can forget the first time they heard "Enter Sandman" from the Black Album and then to have that reimagined by these guys and still make the hair stand up on the back of your neck? Genius. Their self-titled 'debut' a few years ago now was amazing, showcasing another side to these re-inventionists. A...

Apocalyptica have delived another metal masterpiece with the Album Worlds Collide. There are several versions available including the 11 track standard, 11 track with bonus dvd (see european DVD description), the extra track japan with bonus tracks Lies, Ural, and Dreamer, and Japanese bonus track version with bonus japanese DVD with I'm not jesus, making of I'm not jesus, interview, japanese interview, live videos of Master of Puppets and Betrayal, and photo gallery. There is also the European deluxe edition with 2 bonus tracks of Ural and Dreamer, and the DVD minus the live videos and the japanese interview, and a 13 track european version with no dvd. Any version you get will be excellent. I got the European DVD version, and am very pleased.

From start to finish, this album has the tempo changes and the intensity that we have come to expect from the original compositions by this band, and also has the feature of a cover tune of the german version Heros by David Bowie sang by Rammmstein's lead singer. Also featured are tracks with Three days grace lead singer, Corey Taylor of Stonesour/Slipknot, and Christina Scabia of Lacuna Coil. These vocal tracks are all decent, but I'm still more interested in the music behind them. However, again, apocalyptica makes it work well. Plus, since the addition of drumming from the album reflections forward, Dave Lombardo of Slayer continues to guest on a few of the tracks. A nice booming addition to this already blistering line up. Tracks to play loud are "I'm not Jesus", "I Don't Care", and "Worlds Collide". Again, very good album for first timers to get, and a must for fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, but loses a star because of certain vocals, July 12, 2008
This review is from: Worlds Collide (Audio CD)
I love this cd, Apocalyptica has come a long way. I am extremely disappointed in the guest vocal tracks, even though I am a fan of 3 of the 4 vocalists.

The vocal tracks really kill the flow for me and they bring down Apocalyptica's potential. The vocal tracks are less dynamic and the lyrics are either hit or miss, they are a miss with me. Cristina Scabbia has a beautiful voice and I was thrilled to see that she contributed, but the song is too simple and the lyrics aren't very poetic. I couldn't even post the lyrics that bug me here for a reason. When I thought of the combination I had hoped for something much better. The only vocal track that seems to work for me is "Helden" featuring Till Lindemann and it's just a cover of "Heroes" by the Wallflowers.

The album is still great, I still gave it 4 stars for a reason. It's absolutely beautiful metal, I just wish there was more Apocalyptica and less awkward guest vocal tracks that seem to hold them down creatively.

I purchased the CD after hearing the song S.O.S ( anything but love ).
It was worth the price just for that song. The music is Haunting.
Cristina Scabbia , from Lacuna Coil, does the vocals.
She is amazing !!!! I give that song 4 stars !!!!
there are some other guests doing vocals on the cd that are very good as well. the rest of the songs are instrumentals, also good.

I really like the cd, I'm glad I purchased it & feel it was worth the price.
I'll be looking into getting more cd's from this artist.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worlds Collide, November 3, 2007

Apocalyptica: Worlds Collide. First off, this is a great piece of musical art. Apocalyptica is the only band that I know of who truly pulls off the metal edge on classical music and with every successive album they only get better.

The tracks that really stand out on this album are: 1. Worlds Collide, 2. Grace, 7. Last Hope, 9. Burn (my new all time favorite), 11. Peace, 12. Ural, and 14. Dreamer.

The tracks that I really don't like are the tracks with singers, unfortunately; 3, 5, 8, and 10. That's why I can't give this album a perfect score, as much as I want to. On their previous albums the tracks with singers have been the standout excellent tracks to me, but on this one they're kind of whiny.

Overall, though, this is an excellent album. Buy it. Play it for your friends.

A few albums later, and the idea of Apocalyptica, while possibly at the right place at the right time (nu-metal clutters the airways) feels a tad worn. It's too bad that this band didn't really catch on until this popular wave. I would've much rather had these guys at the forfront of a movement than just being one of the many, many voices that now define the current musical trends.

It's not that 'Worlds Collide' is a bad album, its just not stunning, IMO. The vocalists, while popular, don't do justice to the overall feel of Apocalyptica and yet I wouldn't be surprised if your average musical consumer doesn't regard these songs as the best part of this album. To each their own.

I had hoped to hear more of the instruments instead of the heavy metal rock sound.

I bought this for my 15 yr old son for Christmas
after he "subjected" me to the song 'I Don't Care'.
I fell in LOVE with this music. This band. All the
different instruments. It's an incredible amalgam of sounds.
I highly recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice work!, May 1, 2008
This review is from: Worlds Collide (Audio CD)
I wasn't a fan of Apocalyptica before this album. In truth, I never even listened to them before this album.
I purchased the CD/DVD combo and it's excellent. The DVD has behind the scenes and the video for I'M NOT JESUS. NICE!!!
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I don't really get into the German meloncollie rock like the song HELDON. I'M NOT JESUS, I DON'T CARE and SOS are great vocal songs. The instrumental songs are very good as well.
I say this is a must have for rock fans.
