More About the Author

Paul Levitz was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1956, and entered the comics industry in 1971 as editor/publisher of The Comic Reader, the first mass-circulation fanzine devoted to comics news. He continued to publish TCR for three years, winning two consecutive annual Comic Art Fan Awards for Best Fanzine. His other fan activities included editing the program books for several of Phil Seuling's legendary New York Comic Art Conventions,. He received Comic-con International's Inkpot Award in 2002, the prestigious Bob Clampett Humanitarian Award in 2008, and the Comics industry Appreciation Award from ComicsPro (the trade association of comic shop retailers) in 2010. Levitz also serves on the board of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund.

Levitz is primarily known for his work for DC Comics, where he has written most of their classic characters including the Justice Society, Superman in both comics and the newspaper strip, and an acclaimed run on The Legion of Super-Heroes, a series he's recently returned to write. Readers of The Buyers' Guide voted his Legion: The Great Darkness Saga one of the 20 best comic stories of the last century, and visitors to the site comicbookresources.com selected the same story as #11 of the Top 100 Comic Book Stories of All Time. DC Comics has just issued a new hardcover edition of Legion: The Great Darkness Saga, which made the New York Times' Graphic Books Bestseller List.

Cumulatively, Levitz has written over 300 stories with sales of over 25 million copies, and translations into over 20 languages. As a DC staffer from 1973, Levitz was an assistant editor, the company's youngest editor ever, and in a series of business capacities, became Executive Vice President & Publisher in 1989 and then served as President & Publisher from 2002-2009. He continues as a Contributing Editor, but is now concentrating on his writing.

His current writing projects include Taschen's 75 YEARS OF DC COMICS: THE ART OF MODERN MYTHMAKING, which the LA Times praised for "its colossal ambitions, insights and collected rarities" and the NY Times called "richly conceived history."

If you read the new 52 Earth 2 book I would recommend picking this TBP up, it shows what happened to Power Girl and Huntress (Earth 2 Supergirl and Robin) after they plunged into the portal in the mainstream DC Earth. Taking the new code names Power Girl and Huntress, they try to blend into this new world and try and find a way back to Earth 2. The first 5 issues in this volume so far is a pretty good read, there is some slow parts, but I was always a fan of Huntress and Power girl, and also of George Perez artwork.

If you enjoyed the new 52 Earth 2 series, I would suggest picking this up as a companion.

It's hard to review without spoilers but I can honestly say this ranks up there with Aquaman and The Suicide Squad as one of the best of the New 52. The comic is so good that even with the new PC costume for Powergirl they still get the boob window in. That's pretty good loopholing! This is a great pair of heroes. I love the buddy system in this one and the fact that it's a girl powered comic. (I liked Batwoman mind you but they were definitely pushing that one with having Rachael Maddow do the forward, unnecessary). Batgirl is an incredible comic so I rate by that and World's finest definitely matches it punch for punch. While reading it I never felt that Huntress was being purposely "missed" by the writer from attacks that stunned Powergirl just to keep her alive. This is a great comic.

I recommend Aquaman, Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, Justice League Dark, Batgirl, and the Flash as the top DC comics. I personally like the Red Lantern corp but that's not everyone's forte.

World's Finest, Vol. 1 introduces us to the New 52 versions of classic Bronze Age/Iron Age heroines Huntress and Power Girl, both of which suffered changes to their concept since the Crisis On Infinite Earths. Power Girl survived the Crisis, but became a ball of confusion over what "origin story of the week" is truly canonical with her or not, while the Huntress was still connected with Batman, but just as a version of Batman that was raised in a mob family that got killed and is seeking to settle a score with the murderers. Here with the New 52 version, Power Girl is back to being the cousin of the Earth-2 Superman (though originally going under the identity of Supergirl), while the Huntress is back to being the daughter of the Earth-2 Batman (though originally going under the identity of Robin) with the added bonus of taking on the identity of the previous Huntress. Most of this volume is about the two girls getting used to being in DC's Prime Earth world with much of the book having them deal with a giant radioactive menace that gets out of control. It's not bad, and we do see how the two girls bond with each other, though I do think Power Girl's costume is a bit too weird compared to her "breast window" costume I'm more used to seeing her in, which DC ended up bringing back in a modernized way.

I Loved it! The best of the new DC 52 I've seen! Bringing back the old Huntress and Power Girl team that is very similiar to the old Pre-Crisis team was fantasic! I wasn't thrilled with the Earth 2 Robin & Supergirl but the referral to Helena Bertinelli was great. I"ll being reading more for as long as this version lasts.

I was impressed with this book. Not the best story, but still very good and the artwork is fantastic as it should be. I would say any comic fan would love this book.

This is a very interesting take/redux on two very underrated superheroines...I would love to see how Power Girl develops into a more well-rounded hero, and anything is possible with the Huntress...

Very enjoyable read of two characters that had not seen much in past stories!
The pace was a bit slow at times, but the relationship between them and the other characters in the book
made a great impression on me!
I will continue to look for this title in the future!
