Editorial Reviews

Every year, people spend as much time discussing the commercials that air on the Super Bowl, as the game itself, and it’s no wonder. For years, producers have found ways to elicit smiles, tears, and gasps of awe in the commercials they create. As you watch this entertaining and humorous compilation, you’ll be reminded of all those great commercials that made you smile the clever phrases that became part of our day to day language, the images that lingered for years afterward. Sometimes, the products are forgotten but they live on in the commercials that advertised them. Commercials include: Classic cars including Volkswagen and Chevrolet, Movie tributes to "Bladerunner", "Close Encounters" (part of the Coke-Pepsi wars), "Of Mice and Men" (for Volkswagen) Famous commercials include: Hertz has O.J. flying high, The California Raisins, Mean Joe Greene tossing his jersey to "the kid", Coke vs. Pepsi ads, Izusu commercial with David Leisure, Amazing stunts performed by famed stunt driver, Remy Julienne, Examples of how animation and special effects changed commercials

3.0 out of 5 stars nonstop commercials, February 16, 2008

This review is from: World's Funniest & Cleverest Commercials (DVD)
"World's Funniest & Cleverest Commercials" is a good overview of the commercials created in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. However, there are a few drawbacks. First, the commercials come one after the other with no stopping point if you want to examine one particular commercial. Also, it is sometimes not obvious where one commercial ends and the next begins. Second, the host is not terribly funny (in my opinion) and rather distracts from the show. Finally, it is already dated because today's commercials are so technologically superior to even the commercials of the 90s.

I might recommend this to someone who wants a general overview of older commercials and doesn't need to look at each one individually.
