Superb selection of highly popular classics,
By Frank (NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Worlds Greatest Classic Highlight/d 308 (Paperback)
This is the best collection I've seen of truly popular classical piano pieces. Virtually no obscure works are included. Unlike more typical collections where I skip over many of the pieces, I enjoy playing almost every one of the almost 40 works contained in this book.
Notable is the inclusion of all the movements of the Moonlight Sonata and Mozart's Sonata XVI. It also contains some nice transcriptions of themes from famous piano concertos. It should be noted that many of the pieces are for advanced pianists. It seems obvious that difficulty was not a consideration in the selections made by Sandy King and I applaud him for that. As is usual in such collections, the extensiveness of fingering and pedaling indications/suggestions varies from piece to piece. I subtracted one star because the book's binding isn't the best (a spiral-bound republishing would be highly welcome) but that shouldn't dissuade you from purchasing this terrific collection. |
