5.0 out of 5 stars Get out Da Bomb Box and put on ya BK's This is classic Hip Hop at its best!!
I first heard this album was in 88 when it fist came out I was like 12 or 13 at the time. I dubbed a copy from my cousin and I played it so much that the taped poped. The last time I can remember hearing it was in late 89 early 90. I feel the same way about this album now as I did then. 3.0 out of 5 stars very good if it has a particular song
if it has "keep rising to the top" it is very good just on the basis of that song.

if it hasn't sorry, i can't comment. i have been trying to track that song down on vinyl for years now.

Ok, If ya you remember the beginning of Hip Hop and were a fan you have to give this album its props. It took Rap into another direction with Gettin readys go-go flava and Rising to the tops mellow grove. This is a must if you are from the early Rap era. PICK IT UP!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST OLD SCHOOL ALBULMS OF ALL TIME......, May 18, 2002

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBULM'S DOUG EEEEEEE!, EVER PUT OUT. I CAME UP ON OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP EVEN PRIOR TO DOUG E. FRESH SO I CONSIDER MYSELF A SEASONED VETERAN OF THE COLABORATION OF LYRIC'S AND BEAT'S. THERES'S SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE ON THIS ALBULM AND I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR IT, AFTER LOSING IT, FOR SOME TIME NOW. I AM MOST CERTAIN THIS WILL BE HIGH ON THE COLLECTOR'S LIST FOR YEARS TO COME.

4.0 out of 5 stars When Rappers Actually Had Skillz, January 23, 2007

This review is from: The World's Greatest Entertainer (Audio CD)
Doug E. Fresh is definitely one of the pioneers of hip hop but also of party hip hop. From that Genre with the exception of Biz Markie and Heavy D and Kid and Play, nobody had dance floors packed like Doug E. Fresh.

The Show & La Di Da Di (with Slick Rick) has to be one of the top 5 greatest rap/party singles ever release on wax hands down. And just when you think there was no way Doug E. Fresh could ever top "The Show" then the single "Keep Rising To The Top" came later on and had the Summer of 88 on pure lockdown.

This album is particularly memorable for me being that I live in the D.C. area and Doug E. Fresh was one of the first, if not the first hip hop artist to record live with a D.C. Go-Go Band when he recorded "I'm Getting Ready" w/D.C.'s own Rare Essence which was a smash in the Choco City and the rest of East Coast. That single is also on this album along with one of my favorite Doug E Fresh joints, "D.E.F.=Doug E. Fresh". "Cut That Zero" was a head knocker in which he sample Levert's "Cassanova" and reportedly got in a lot of legal trouble for sampling it without permission. I still think the "All The Way To Heaven" Lp is slightly better but there isn't a bad Doug E Fresh Album from back then anyway so it's all good. I'd wish they'd release a real Doug E. Fresh greatest hits joint and give him his just due like they do all the other artist who helped pave the way cuz Doug E. definitely put his work in and paid his dues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Doug E's Fresh!, July 25, 2005

This is the one Doug E. Fresh album that puts a lump in my throat. This joint came out when I was in sixth grade and I remember every word to every song, especially "Guess? Who?". I could go on and on about how great an album this is, but any true Doug E. Fresh fan already knows that. I realize tha some of you aren't up on true old school hip-hop. As a matter of fact, I think some of you think rap began with Biggie & 2Pac. But if you take the time to listen to their elders, you may find the influences that made them so great. One of these influences is no doubt Doug E. Fresh: The World's Greatest Entertainer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Takes me back!, January 11, 2007

This CD is special because it was when rap music was easily understood. The lyrics were telling a story about something most people could relate to and repeat without anyone getting offended. At the time of its release I was a college student and I only had the cassette tape. I played it all the time before my basketball games to get me hyped to play my games. This CD is also a friendly reminder of when I first got out college, bought my first car and my own apartment. After tape players became ancient, I couldn't find this on CD and I was devastated. All record stores told me it was out of print. Thanks to Amazon, I'm able to revisit the beginning of my adult life when things were simple and I didn't have a lot of responsibilities. Even to this day I use the lyrics of this CD in my everyday conversations and it is unreal how many people have never heard of the phrases (like "cut that zero"). This a probably Doug E. Fresh's best CD he ever made.

4.0 out of 5 stars part of a true Old School Rap Collection, March 3, 2006

I will keep this short. The cd is good overall. My biggest frustration with this cd is that there is very little of Dougie Fresh beat-boxing, eventhough that is what he does best. There is 1 slow jam that I would physically remove if it was possible. However, I am still glad I purchased the cd.
