World Cup 1966-1986,
By
This review is from: Worlds Greatest Goals (DVD)
This DVD is a nice time capsule of some of the most memorable goals from World Cups past. This is good for the history buff of the "beautiful game" that is packed with 141 goals from the "Golden Age" of World Cup. If you are new to futbol or soccer than you may learn something about and from the greats like Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Eusebio, Moore, Beckenbauer and Mueller amongst others that are covered in the years 1966-1986. It is important to note that the coverage is not sequential but rather skips around which if you are not paying close attention can be confusing. Although the focus is on the goals there are plenty of saves, fouls and excitement that is part of World Cup action. The narration is a bit dry in the British style but the play on the pitch creates it's own excitement. Some of the first round play from rarely seen teams like North Korea (yep, them of the evil empire) is pretty odd to see but there is much more footage of the perrenial powerhouses like Germany, Brazil, Italy and Argentina. Essentially this is a historical document that includes important milestones like Brazils 100th goal (a header by Pele) the collapse of a 2 nil lead by England in 1986 in Mexico with 12 minutes to play only to loose to Mueller and Germany, the amazing shots and assists of Pele and the "Goal of the Century" by Maradona where he weaves through five men in defense to score in the quarter finals against England , not to be confused with the "Hand of God" goal (his previous goal in the same match)where he actually gets away with usng his fist to bring a ball down and score a heartbreaking goal against a soon to be defeated opponent. The material looks dated(check out the short shorts) and might not appeal to the generations brought up on super fast and sharp pictures of video games(shouldn't they be called DVD games by now?) but for students of the game it is a masterpiece. It's like foreplay for the World Cup in Germany slated for this summer where you learn about the tradition and rivalries that create the tension for the world's biggest sporting event stage. Check it out and bring on World Cup 2006!!

This review is from: Worlds Greatest Goals (DVD)
This DVD, The World's Greatest Goals, is a wonderful watch. It contains 141 Goals from the likes of Charlton, Hurst, Pele (Maybe the best player ever), Muller, Kempes, Rossi (who scores 6 goals in a three game span in 82), Maradona (Who scores the goal of the century invading 5 defenders to score), Lineker, and many others. The footage is very good and clear, the angles good, the sounds fine and what we get hear is really a good history of the World cup from 1966-1986. All the greats are hear both teams and players. Its a must have sports DVD.
