4.0 out of 5 stars Finally!
I have been been waiting for this to be released to dvd forever. This is one of my favorite comedies. I remember seeing this flick at the movies with a friend and we both loved it, still quote it to this day.

Gene Wilder is at this best as Rudy Valentine. Carol Kane is adorable as Annie, his long-suffering wife. Dom DeLuise steals the movie as Adolph...

3.0 out of 5 stars Early Gene Wilder Comedy
If you're a Wilder fan, you'll want to see this one that he wrote and starred in early in his career. Good to see but not as satisfying as later comedies.

Gene Wilder is at this best as Rudy Valentine. Carol Kane is adorable as Annie, his long-suffering wife. Dom DeLuise steals the movie as Adolph Zitz, troubled movie producer.

Lots of broad physical comedy and sight gags (ala Mel Brooks). Probably my favorite Gene Wilder portrayal (over Willy Wonka even!). If you are a Gene Wilder fan and have not seen this movie - get it. One of his best.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wilder at his Best, March 18, 2006

Along with Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother this was another one of my favorite movies as a child. The scene were Wilder's hotel room floods and he forces a family to swim in it as if it were a swimming pool is hysterical. It's been a while since I saw this, but I remember many scenes of bust out laughter. Also, Carol Kane is adorable in this movie with her big blue eyes and innocent smile. It makes the scene were she is mistaken as a prostitute even more funnier then it is. I will definitely buy this when it comes out, but for everyone else I would suggest it as a must rental.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah, we're serious! It's funny!!!, June 10, 2006
This review is from: The World's Greatest Lover (DVD)
To the grumbling entity below who has determined after so many years that this flick really isn't funny... it is you who have changed.

I just saw this flick for the first time in my life yesterday. I haven't laughed so hard at any flick in a very long time. Now, admittedly, I am a person who really appreciates silliness and things that happen completely out of left field.

This flick is loaded with little surprises and short gags and a few well-done comedy cliches from time to time. At no time was I ever bored, which happens in so many comedy flicks at some point.

I love Gene Wilder and I grabbed this flick and Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother at Fry's from an end-cap display a couple days ago. I am 40 and I've never seen either of these, and this flick is a scream!

And yes... Carol Kane is such a babe... a true babe for the ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true comedy classic!, January 24, 2005
This movie, in my opinion, ranks up there with some of the funniest movies ever made. It's true comic genius with Gene Wilder at the helm. The incident in the bakery, and the incident on the train (careful who you sit next to), etc. I just know that you will laugh 'till your side hurts! Oh and let's not forget the comedic efforts of Dom DeLouise, who in his own funny way is determined to produce a blockbuster movie. I'm just sorry that a movie of this caliber has not been produced as a DVD. In short, if you like comedy and you like Gene Wilder's movies, then this is a must see.

This is what a comedy movies are all about, but don't be fooled; it surprisingly takes you through a range of emotions. Wilder is a comedy genius, and as you see this movie, you arrive at the distinctive recognition of a comedy masterpiece. This movie is timeless and is one not to be missed... I absolutely love this movie...

this is one of my all time favorite movies. It is simple but funny.Gene Wilder is hysterical as is Carol Kane. She is almost as funny as she is in "the Princess Bride" .The premise is simple but the cast is amazing.A very young Danny Devitto,Dom Deluise and other comedy geniues make appearances in this very light farce.

This is an interesting period movie comedy. I never knew it existed till I met an actor from Hollywood that told me about it. She is in the movie and is one of the 4 prostitutes. Very funny...

I watched this a long time ago and it was great to see it again! They don't make comedies like they used to, and it's fun to see some of these old talented actors together in a great film!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent comedy, September 28, 2004
This is a more or less forgotten, and underrated, movie. Starring great comedians such as Gene Wilder and Dom de Louise. It is not only a comedy, it is also a highly romantic nostalgia of old Hollywood of the 1920's. I saw it about 20 times in the 1980's and it still is a great movie.
