Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

From Audi to Vauxhall, The World's Greatest Rally Cars offers a comprehensive survey of peak performers throughout the history of Rally racing. This well-made feature examines 34 racers in 19 marques, treating each car as a separate DVD chapter, and showing each historically significant competitor in new or (mostly) archival footage, with detailed histories of every car. The informative narration was researched by Rally historian Graham Robson, and the narrator is veteran British Rally driver and commentator Ron Mason, whose in-depth experience informs every chapter, along with engaging reminiscence from several of the sport's most illustrious drivers. (They all cite the Ford Escort Mk I as the best Rally car ever.) Fact pages are given for each featured car, along with data for 27 years of championship racers, and breathtaking on-board footage from some of Rally's most treacherous courses. Kudos to the race fans at Duke Video for a job well done. --Jeff Shannon

2.0 out of 5 stars Not really recommended., January 11, 2003
This review is from: The World's Greatest Rally Cars (DVD)
I was let down by this. The footage, although rare, is constantly repeated. I did not find the commentary overly exciting and the sole commentator is rather montone in his delivery. There is a lot of great information on this DVD but it's not something you want to entertain with. If you are a real hardcore rally racing enthusiast you may enjoy it.

If you're looking for exciting footage and rally race commentary you're better off taping the WRC (World Rally Championships) off Speed TV.

3.0 out of 5 stars Get it just for the Pikes Peak Footage, April 28, 2003
This review is from: The World's Greatest Rally Cars (DVD)
Most of this DVD is okay, even if there is a disproportionate amount of attention placed on the Fords... But the single best reason to get this is that it contains nearly the entire famous 'Climb Dance' sequence of Ari Vatenen's Peugeot at Pikes Peak. Having that 5 minutes of film on DVD makes the whole disc worthwile.

If you like rally cars just buy it already!!!

Tony Mason is great, the included selection of cars is comprehensive and the video quality is acceptable (it is after all pre-HD).

You won't regret getting this. If anything get it for the quality footage of the audi and Peugeot going up Pikes Peak.
