This review is from: World's Most: Awesome Record Breakers (DVD)
In a mixture of feats ranging from interesting to extraordinary to unbelievable, here's a compact but entertaining look at what human beings are capable of. This program examines the following accomplishments in the order they are presented on the disc. Each segment has good video and sound coverage with decent narration and background information on participants, locations, and historical references where applicable.
1. Roller Coaster riding record set at 1013 hours (47 total days) on the coaster
2. Ashrita Furman holds the record for setting the most records (59) over a 20 year span
3. World's largest sandcastle at 64 feet high, 220 million pounds, and covering more area than an entire city block
4. One man's Unicycle trek across the entire United States
5. World's largest food fight in Spain involving 20,000 participants and 100 tons of tomatoes
6. The Reverend who pulls a 16 ton fire truck for 100 feet in 33 seconds
7. A free diver descends 439 feet in the ocean on one breath of air
8. One man swims across the Atlantic Ocean (3,736 miles in 73 days)
9. NASA creates the only propeller driven aircraft to achieve an altitude of 80,000 feet
10. John Glenn is the oldest man to go into space at age 77
At just under one hour, it's impossible to document the vast amount of fascinating records set by everyday people but the choices offered here are appealing in and of themselves. I definitely would have liked to see much more and can only hope more material will be produced at a later time. Bonus features on the disc include direct scene access, Guinness official rules, and a record breaking quiz.
