5.0 out of 5 stars SUPERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY & SUPERB CONTENT FOR AMAZING PRICE!, July 14, 2000
By
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
While browsing for a shell guide book, I first put this one aside thinking it was merely an artsy coffee table book which would not have the information and quality technical photos of shells I was looking for. I finally opened the book and was very pleasantly surprised! The book has spectacular photography with an abundance of biographical information on shells and classifications, covering a generous and diverse variety. If all that wasn't enough, add a pleasing, affordible price and you've got one dynamite shell book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real tribute to a famous Conchologist., October 17, 2000

This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
Leonard Hill was a most fascinating man and shells were his passion. He died far too young, but fortunately left us with a really lovely book that will be remembered for many years to come. Just like the shells he sold with such care, this book shows the seashells as the jewels many of us have come to appreciate. This book is a tribute to his work and is highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Shell Photographs and Excellent Text, March 18, 2005
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
The two authors have done an excellent job, not only of selecting truly beautiful shells from all over the world and doing an outstanding job with the photographs, they have also written very informative text for those who are new to shell collecting. The types of shells are representative and nicely organized.

While this may not be the first book you need to identify your beach shell collection if you are a new comer to shell collection you discover shortly to compare your own sheels to these and realize that in fact your own may compare well.

I especially enjoyed the collages of limpets turned on both sides with the wonderful greens and blue greens of quite ordinary Barbados Limpets.

I would recommend it as say a fifth purchase after some good idenfication compendia and shorter books on just starting the hobby, if you are a beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Title says it all!, August 8, 2000

Just unbelievable how many different and very beautiful shells there are in the world: the variety of shapes, textures and colors is amazing! Bravo to the authors for their very nice work: the photographs are simply excellent and the text understandable also for non-specialist shell lovers. I'm planning to use this stunning shell book as a photo reference for some watercolor paintings. A big thank you to Leonard and Peter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Much more then expected, June 28, 2006
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
This book is not by any means scientific.
This book is not an identification guide.
The species list is obviously very incomplete.
but...
Truly marvelous, large-format photography of only the best of the best GEM specimens. Each with a short description, which is VERY interesting to read - these are some real facts about the shells and not the description of what you can see on the photo. I consider myself an advanced collector, and this book is a real relief after reading some of the more advanced publications on shell collecting. An excellent source for some real-life knowledge. Highly recommended - both for collectors, or just anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for beach lovers, August 7, 2006
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
My wife purchased this book for our beach house and we decided to keep a copy for ourselves at home. It has every shell that you could ever dream of. Our kids love the book because they can look up shells that they have found in the book and see what they are called and what use to live inside of them.

It is great for anyone that has a room or bathroom using seashells or an ocean decoration theme.

Very good book!

This book is pure eye candy for shell lovers. The photographs are beautiful and the close ups allow you to see the fine detail of many shells. This book can also be used as a shell identification reference as the photos are clearly annotated with the names of the shells.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning color photography!, July 6, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
The photos in this book are beautiful. Interesting text to engage the hobbyist. Incomplete indexing makes it hard to locate specific shells but you won't tire of leafing through this well designed, colorful volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Seashell Images in One Book, August 20, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The World's Most Beautiful Seashells (Worlds Most Series) (Paperback)
This is truly the BEST book on seashells IMHO. I love it for the images are incredible - so much so that the photography seems almost 3-D in some instances. The high quality of the images and information (and obvious love for the subject by the author) is unbelievable when you look at the cost for this treasure. It is a bargain for what you gain - beauty, artistry of nature, knowledge of many varieties of mollusks, and unique images not seen in other shell books (many in my own library). This is my favorite of all seashell books, unless I am exploring on the shore when a guidebook is more appropriate. Yes, this is quality coffee table book...but one that will be picked up by you and your guests more frequently than your other books.
