Following 13 essays on "Ethnomusicologists at Work," the final volume in the monumental Garland Encyclopedia of World Music interfiles and reprints the glossaries and indexes of the other nine volumes and reprints the "guides to reference sources" (bibliographies, discographies, filmographies) from all the volumes without interfiling them. The essays are personal statements from scholars who have made ethnographic music study their career and describe their own musical training, how their interest in music took an anthropological turn, insider-outsider experiences while doing research all over the world, and the various techniques scholars employ while doing field work. By itself, this volume stands as an inspiring career guide for students of world music, an integrated dictionary of mainly non-English music terms from all the cultures covered by the encyclopedia, and a sourcebook for ethnomusicology publications and recordings, as well as an overall index to the ten-volume set. Even specialized libraries that do not own the entire set may want this on their shelves, especially if their patrons have a general interest in world music.
