Outstanding sports management strategy game,

My review is based on the demo, which I recommend strongly for anyone considering buying this game. It is not an arcade game like the EA series, but one where you manage a soccer club, including its reserve and youth squads. You can be actively involved in all aspects of running your team, such as setting up individual training schedules for the players, influencing behavior through private talks through the media, deciding game strategies and lineups, and of course wheeling and dealing like a Steinbrenner/Abramovich type. Or you can turn aspects such as training and contract negotiation over to an assistant. Your call.
This is a very addictive game. There is a real delight to trying to build a top squad within the limits of your owner's wallet (unless you are running Chelsea). Finding and developing young talent is particularly rewarding. The gameplay is also pretty exciting. I find it easy to forget I'm watching little numbered circles maneuvering a yellow sphere. I get pretty animated (and vocal) in the badgering of my team from my easychair sidelines! With a beer I become a hooligan. The new items are not many, but they are very interesting. You can ask a seasoned pro to tutor one of your younger players, and the results are sometimes very good. I've had best success with goalkeepers. The scouts' areas of expertise/knowledge are viewable, and you get better accuracy if you stay within those areas. You have a lot more options to influence behavior, both of your own players and those on other teams. Let your Inner Manipulative Bastard free! You can talk to the team before and after the game, and at halftime. I didn't realize my capacity to alienate so many people at once! Just like in my real life... The game works very well. The club management aspect is challenging and enjoyable, and the game management is fascinating. There are some minor drawbacks such as balance of play fine-tuning needed (Udinese had not conceded a goal in 8 games?!?) and ball boys who toss the ball back into the center of the field, but overall Football Manager (Worldwide Soccer Manager) 07 is a good value. If you've played past versions, this is a good upgrade. If you haven't played an earlier version, download the demo and give it a try. The world will be your oyster, soccer-wise.

I've played previous versions of this game and many others spanning various years. This one holds it's own as a deep and enjoyable look at managing soccer teams throughout the world. The interface is simple to use and you can control the amount of detail in the game which is huge at the highest setting. I judge management games on how few "querks" there are. Quite often the same scenarios occur over and over again, best plyrs get injured, team nose dives for no reason etc. So far this hasn't been a frustration at all with this version. Some of the lower leagues are little thin on players & stats but if you want to start with a huge club this wont matter anyway. The only other complaint is the silly animation during the matches - but again not a big deal; if I wanted to see good animation I would by FIFA soccer instead. Good game overall. If you like this style of game you can't go wrong with this one

Best Soccer Game,

This game is definitely for the TRUE football fan (soccer for us Americans). I love the fact that the "rules" change when you manage teams from different leagues (for example, trades instead of buying players in the MLS, players needing clearance to play in England if they are not from the EU, players being co-owned in Italy). I feel like I'm learning more about the world of football each time a start a new team in a new league.
The most fun to me is starting at the bottom and gradually working my way up to the top over many years. I am happy at how challenging this game is too. I've always liked the management aspect of the EA FIFA games, but it seemed way too easy to make it to the top. I never felt like I was fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation like I have in WSM. There also is a ton of content online for this game including kits and faces for 1000's of players and a hefty amount of advice. (of course you need to search for it under the name Football Manager). My favorite game in years, I'm completely addicted!

This game is a good soccer management sim that can be pretty detailed. It can get kinda repetitive though, because there isn't a whole lot to do between games, most of the time. If you want to know what it might be like to manage a club though, this is the closest thing to reality on the market.

World Wide Soccer Manager 2007 brings the enjoyment of managing one of hundreds of possible teams. Choose from leagues like the English Premiership, La Liga, Bundesliga, or Serie A. Start off as a team in a low division and hope to move up, or start at the top with a large franchise and battle for it all. WWSM07 lets you trade players, set training schedules, set lineups, use the media for psychological games (good or bad), manage the youth teams, compete in league and tournament play (such as Champions League, FA Cup, Carling Cup, etc), and overall experience the rigors and joys of management.
The only negatives are the occassional excessive amount of injuries your squad may face, dips in form, and depending on the settings, sometimes too much aggression leading to yellow and red cards. Images for players and teams are available on the web to enhance the experience. For anyone who wants to manage a team or who is used to the franchise mode in Madden NFL football, WWSM07 delivers the same micro-management options and will result in many many hours of fun. Highly recommended for soccer enthusiasts!

FM is flat out amazing. If,like me, you dream of controlling a sports team - this is as close as you're likely to get.
I buy this game every year and it keeps getting better and better. The biggest change for 2007 is the scouting system which is now very realistic. My wife complains that it is too addictive, don't listen to my wife.

Great game! It carries the tradition of its quality predecessors like championship manager. They only problem with this game it takes away your life. You'll want to play it so often you'll find you have no time for activities, like work...I hope you have enough vacation days banked.

This game is the one game if you love playing, watching, evaluating soccer. The game keeps renewing itself. 10 years later from you opened first the game, your star players won't be in the game. That is the most important future for the game. I have been playing this management game since 1998 and there is no competitor against it. Must be bought and played.
