The worm factory makes an adequate habitat for your favorite garbage eating critters (worms). However, it has it's problems. The first is that the drain spout is too small and gets easily clogged, requiring frequent thorough cleanings. The other issue is that it doesn't take a worm trained in the escape arts to figure out how to exit this bin. There are gaps all over the place which means lot of little worms wandering about if you are using this in an indoor location. Not difficult to clean the little critters up, but something to be aware of.

I have been using this system for about a half a year now and it has worked out nicely overall.

Pros:
-None of my worms ever escaped - just keep the bin moist and the worms will stay.
-The bin is easy to clean and transport - important for a college student.
-It's relatively easy on the eyes and doesn't smell if you treat it right. :)

Cons:
-The drainage spout does occasionally get clogged, which is annoying.

We have a family of 5 and have been using a 3 tray worm factory for several years now. It works great and I use the castings for my potted plants and add to my flower beds and garden. You can really tell a difference. We even use the castings to make a tea an spray on the grass.

I have had mine for about 6 years now and it works great. The directions that came with it eventually ended up in the composter. I suggest reading up on worm composting to get a better idea on how to use it. I put most of my food waste in it. I had to purchase a few more trays so that it would last the winter without emptying the trays. The worms don't like the cold. I highly recomend this. The great thing about this is that it so simple to maintain. I have left mine alone for a few months and in the spring there is always enough worms to start over. My gardens just love this stuff. Oh just so you know I have had more than 15,000 worms when they get going. I started with just one pound. I find them in every tray. Most are in the middle. I put the ones from the tray I empty, back in. I add crushed egg shells to help the worms multiply.

I really like this worm factory. I ordered it, a few worms,and the book "WORMS ATE MY GARBAGE" by Mary Appel. Very helpful book.

My only disappointment was that my first worm factory must have been a returned product, because it had clearly been modified by the first purchaser - the spicket was completely cut out of the tray. So of course the directions didn't make sense! Please, anyone who has an item to return, have some integrity and don't send an item back if it's not in perfect shape! It was so disappointing to me to get a "used" product when I had paid for a new one. In saying this it's not a criticism of Amazon; no one in their returns department would have noticed the flaw unless they had tried to reassemble the product; all the bins were black plastic and they nested together nicely, so it would be unnoticable until you tried to follow the directions and put the worm bin back together. The returns department was very helpful and shipped out my new bin right away (once I returned the damaged one).

I am pleased to say that the replacement product was in new condition and once I received it I was quite happy. Thank you Amazon, for your great customer service. These things happen from time to time.

PS - Make sure when you get your worms the bin is already set up and ready to go. Also, I hadn't added enough moisture to my bin so all my worms started to crawl out of the bin looking for it. Putting one of the other bins over the top to keep them in the bins helped, as did adding a little more water to my bin. Also, the worms arrived in 100 degree heat so I am sure they were quite stressed out. If this happens to you, be patient! Once the worms get settled and have enough food and moisture, they'll be less likely to go crawling. :-)

This thing is too small and worms crawl right out of it. I suggest a system with a closed lid.
