Incredibly cute and clever, Worms for Lunch does a marvelous job of combining humor and some basic information about what animals eat into the perfect first science lesson for your young preschooler or toddler. Starting with the question "Who eats worms for lunch", the mouse is quick to answer "Not me!" and off we go on our way to finding out that cats eat mice, but they also like milk, cows like grass, but chicks like seeds. Honeybees eat nectar, but what do fish like? You guessed it...

With only one sentence of text per page, and a die cut flap on each page, this book is guaranteed to hold the attention of the rowdiest toddler. The illustrations are brightly colored and whimsical. The final spread showing the worms all slithering off of the fish's dinner plate is very funny, especially when one of the worms says "You can't eat me... I'm a character in this book". Just an excellent choice for any young preschooler or toddler's permanent collection. The many die cut flaps make it problematic for group sharing, however with a bit of practice it would be right at home at story time as well. Recommended.

This is our new favorite book. My three year old loves it, although I can see how this would be great for older toddlers/preschoolers. He loves the pictures and to flip the pages. I love the sparse layout of the text on the page, so that my son can follow me along (he knows it by heart), and the humorous text. It's great for discussion (what do cows like to eat, what do you like to eat?), and for slightly older children it teaches a valuable early lesson about tolerance.

This is a witty, educational, fun book, that is a pleasure to read for young kids and parents alike.
